Hi, I'm John Stroud, principal of Yogyakarta International School.
Thanks for dropping in for a visit of our website.
Y.I.S. is an international elementary school that  was formed in October 1989 to serve the needs of the expatriate community living in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Yogya is a small city in Central Java, not far from the ancient temple, Borobudur and Indonesia's most active volcano Mt. Merapi. The city is often refered to as a center for education and Javanese culture.  There are literally hundreds of academies, universities, seminaries and institutes in the area.  We believe that our school has and will continue to make a significant contribution to the region.

Our students at Y.I.S. come from nations all over the world.  While our language of instruction is English, we share a multilingual, multicultural environment at school.  We employ three expatriate teachers from the United States and Australia, and an equal number of Indonesian teachers who provide invaluable assistance in the classrooms.

For more information about the school, make sure and visit our Frequently Asked Questions page.
