The moose hunting on Monday

On Monday 18/10/1999 half of the group went on a moose hunt.

Departure from school at 06.30 hours. Henrik Renius took us to the professional hunters and beaters. Then he returned to school again (he had already hunted on Friday). We, the students, were the beaters. Our job was to pursued the game towards the hunters. The map below shows how it was done. The beaters started on the blue line. A beater was positioned on this line every 50 meter. After being positioned in one line we started to walk towards the hunters. We were yelling and clapping and walked from the blue line following the yellow line. The animals run away of us into the direction of the hunters. The hunters then shot the animals. The different numbers refer to the different hunting times we did a hunt. It was very important to read your compass and listen to the other beaters. All beaters had to arrive at the hunters at the same moment, otherwise the game could escape through the holes in the beaters line. On this day the hunters shoot: 2 mooses, 15 roe deer and 2 fallowdeer. It was a great day and a fantastic experience.
