• Medline is a database of more than 8.8 million references to articles published in 3800 biomedical journals. It may be accessed free of charge.
•  CancerNet (U.S. National Cancer Institute)
• CISTI in Ottawa houses Canada's largest collection of medical journals. You can search the catalogue and order articles through the Internet. A user ID and password are needed. Delivery is usually within 48 hours.
• OMIM: The Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM) is a database, maintained by Dr. Victor McKusick and colleagues, that catalogues human genes and genetic disorders.

Practice Guidelines and Evidence-Based Learning

• The Canadian Medical Association makes available its practice guidelines in various specialties.
•  Cochrane Reviews (McMaster University coordinates groups reviewing evidence in medical literature on various conditions)
•  Antibiotics Utilization Guidelines (Foedtert Hospital and Medical College of Wisconsin)
• The Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences in Ontario (ICES) is a non-profit organization that conducts research on effective health care. At its site, you can obtain immunization guides, browse through "informed", ICES' newsletter on clinical topics, and access ICES' Exchange to find standard admission orders, caremaps, patient information sheets and other useful documents created by physicians.
•  Medscape Cancer Practice Guidelines

Electronic Journals

• American Journal of Psychiatry
• Canadian Medical Association Journal: Contains abstracts and some full texts.
• New England Journal of Medicine: Scan the current issue and search past issues. Some full texts.
• Pediatrics: The online version of this journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics contains peer-reviewed papers that are not in the printed version. Images are high-quality and expandable.
