Why D Squared?

On a trip to a tsuanmi refugee camp in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka, we stayed with the nuns from St. Cecilia's convent. One of the nuns called us 'd squared' because of our names: Dana and Derwin. Thus, the title of this web page.

Tsunami Relief

We had the opportunity to visit a tsunami refugee camp in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. It was one of those life changing moments for us as we were able to meet and provide some assistance to those affected by the tsunami.

We choose Batticaloa because it is on the hard to reach east coast. Much of the assistance goes to the south of the island so it was nice to help those who aren't so easily accessible.

Our main goal was not to provide housing or food but the opportunity to get back to work. Through our church, we helped to distribute sewing machines, fishing nets, fishing boats, and a computer.
