During our trip, we discovered that the Chilean Nobel laureate Gabriela Mistral was an educational visionary. Her words inspired us. As the U.S. and Chile as countries, and we as individual teachers, continue to strive for educational excellence, may these principles guide us.

Decalogo de la Maestra

Ama. Si no puedes amar mucho, no ensenes ninos.

Simplifica. Saber es simplificar sin restar esencia.

Insiste.

Ten Guiding Principles for Teachers written by Gabriela Mistral

Love If you are not able to love a lot, don't teach children.

Simplify. Wisdom is being able to simplify without taking out what is essential.

Insist. Repeat the way nature repeats the species until it reaches perfection.

Teacher. Be exhilarating. In order to light lamps, you have to carry a fire in your heart
.

Vivify your class. Each lesson should be alive like a living being.

Develop yourself. In order to give, one has to have much.

Remind yourself that your position is not a business but divine service.

Before you give your daily lesson, look in your heart and see if it is pure.

Think that God has put you here to create the world of tomorrow.
