Bruce Coville

About the Author

Bruce Coville was born in Syracuse, New York. He grew up in a rural area, around the corner from his grandparents' dairy farm. Halloween was his favorite holiday, his school's official colors were orange and black, and as a teenager he made extra money by digging graves- all of which probably helps explain why he writes the kind of books he does. He first fell under the spell of writing when he was in sixth grade and his teacher gave the class an extended period of time to work on a short story.
Sixteen years later- after stints as a toymaker, a grave digger, and an elementary school teacher- he published The Foolish Giant, a picture book illustrated by his wife and frequent collaborator, Katherine Coville.
