Grace Hollander - a citizen of the U.S.and of Israel - and her family came on Aliya in 1948 - 54 years ago, years full of turbulent, momentous history.
Born in Boro Park, Brooklyn, which was then more country than city, Grace was brought up in a kind of "Tom Sawyer" fashion - sandlot baseball and tomboy games. She went to New Utrecht High School and graduate from Hunter College (Major: Chemistry) in 1932.
In 1948, when Israel was founded, she made Aliya with her husband. He became the first Undersecretary of Commerce and Industry, and she was the Treasurer of the American Mizrachi Women in Israel, in charge of the financing of 13 childrens' institutions, from 1950-1952.
Intermittently since then her writings have appeared in newspapers and magazines. Her book: "Why I" was published in 1976 and one of the pieces became part of required reading for Israel's english literature matriculation.
