These pages are currently under
construction and will be officially announced
on June 14th 1997 to commemorate the 15th
anniversary of the end of the Falklands War.
In the meantime I'm making them available in
the hope that I get some feedback as to
regards content.
There are many events that happen during
our life times and some are destined to live
with us for ever. These events can be of
global importance and touch the lives of many
whilst others are of a deeply personal nature
that effect only the individual.
The events that took place in the South
Atlantic have for most been forgotten, but
for those who were there and for those who
had loved ones in the war zone the events
that took place in the two and half months of
1982 will live for them forever.
I dedicate these pages to the men and
women of both sides who suffered so cruelly,
especially my mother. Let the lessons of
yesterday never be forgotten and the blood of
young Argentine and British men be spilt to
make up for the failures of our politicians.
As an 18 year old soldier I remember the
events very well. I was the pay clerk for
Right Flank of the 2nd Battalion Scots Guards
and accompanied the company throughout the
campaign. A campaign which was for me to
culminate in the Battle for Mount Tumbledown
and the most memorable night of my life.
Throughout these pages I will attempt to put
in words what I remember about the event. I
kept no diary and therefore the event will be
as I recall it and not necessarily as it
happened. Where I know what I saw was
incorrect I will also include a description
of what actually happened, even eye witnesses
get things wrong.
So what do you remember ? What were you
doing in early 1982 ?
Whether you are a student, a veteran or
just interested please take your time to look
around and if you have any comments please
let me know. My aim is to make this the first
stop for anybody interested in this subject.
I would like to make it very clear from
the start that I do not intend to offend
anybody reading these pages. The subject of
the Falklands/Malvinas is very close to many
peoples hearts and I have no wish to open old
wounds. However, due to the lack of English
translated documentation I know that it will
be hard to give a creditable description of
how the war was perceived and fought from the
Argentine side. I will endeavour to correct
this as and when more information becomes
available to me.
For reasons of clarity I will refer to the
Islands and the locations on them by the
names given to them by the British.
Do you know of anybody who would be
interested in producing a Spanish version of
these pages ? Do you have any information
related to any of these subjects that you
think would be of interest ? Are you a
veteran yourself and would like to say
something ?
If the answer to any of these questions
are yes then please do not hesitate to
contact me
