DEMON-PNEUMA-SPIRITS are Sentient Beings

Note: Scripture attributes MORE PERSONAL ACTIONS to The Holy Spirit than to Demon-Spirits.

Here are ALL the Greek Scriptures relating to DEMON-PNEUMA-SPIRITS from the following words:
daimonizomai {Strong's #1139 = 13x} ~ daimonion {1140 = 60x} ~ daimoniodees {1141 = 1x} ~ daimon {1142 = 5x} ~ pneuma {4151}.
And the report about Him went out into all Syria; & they brought Him all those faring badly, distressed with various diseases & torments, demon-possessed & epileptic & paralyzed persons, & He cured them. (Mt.4:24)

"Many will say to Me in that day, 'LORD, LORD, did we not prophesy in Your name, & expel demons in Your name...?' " (Mt.7:22)

But after it became evening, people brought Him many demon-possessed persons; & He expelled the spirits with a word.... (Mt.8:16)

When He got to the other side, into the country of the Gadarenes, there met Him 2 demon-possessed men coming out from among the memorial tombs, unusually fierce, so that nobody had the courage to pass by on that road. And look! they screamed, saying: "What have we to do with You, Son of God? Did You come here to torment us before the appointed time?" (Mt.8:28,29)

So the demons began to entreat Him, saying: "If You expel us, send us forth into the herd of swine." Accordingly He said to them: "Go!" They came out & went off into the swine; &, look! the entire herd rushed over the precipice into the sea & died in the waters. But the herders fled &, going into the city, they reported everything, including the affair of the demon-possessed men. (Mt.8:31 -33)

people brought Him a dumb man possessed of a demon ; & after the demon had been expelled the dumb man spoke.... But the Pharisees began to say: "It is by the ruler of the demons that He expels the demons." (Mt.9:32 - 34)

He summoned his 12 disciples & gave them authority over unclean spirits , in order to expel these.... (Mt.10:1)

"Cure sick people, raise up dead persons, make lepers clean, expel demons." (Mt.10:8)

"John came neither eating nor drinking, yet people say, 'he has a demon ' " (Mt.11:18)

Then they brought Him a demon-possessed man, blind, & dumb; & He cured him, so that the dumb man spoke & saw. Well, all the crowds... began to say: "May this not perhaps be the Son of David?" At hearing this, the Pharisees said: "This Fellow does not expel the demons except by means of Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons." (Mt.12:22 - 24)

"Moreover, if I expel the demons by means of Beelzebub, by means of whom do your sons expel them? This is why they will be judges of you. But if IN God's Spirit I expel the demons , the kingdom of God has really overtaken you." (Mt.12:27, 28)

"When an unclean spirit comes out of a man, it passes through parched places in search of a resting place, & finds none. Then it says, 'I will go back to my house out of which I moved'; & on arriving it finds it unoccupied but swept clean & adorned. Then it goes its way & takes along with it 7 different spirits more wicked than itself, &, after getting inside, they dwell there; & the final circumstances of that man become worse than the first." (Mt.12:43-45)

a Phoenician woman... cried aloud, saying "Have mercy on me, LORD, Son of David. My daughter is badly demonized." (Mt.15:22)

a man approached Him [Jesus}, kneeling down to Him & saying: "LORD, have mercy on my son, because he is an epileptic & is ill, for he falls often into the fire & often into the water; & I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him." In reply Jesus said: "...Bring him here to Me." Then Jesus rebuked it, & the demon came out of him, & the boy was cured from that hour. Thereupon the disciples came up to Jesus privately & said: "Why is it we could not expel it?" He said to them: "Because of your little faith...." (Mt.17:14-20)

there was in their synagogue a man under the power of an unclean spirit , & he shouted, saying: "What have we to do with You, Jesus You Nazarite? Did you come to destroy us? I know exactly who You are, the Holy One of God." But Jesus rebuked it, saying: "Be silent, & come on out of him!" And THE spirit THE unclean, after throwing him into a convulsion & yelling at the top of its voice, came on out of him. Well, the people were all so astonished that they began a discussion among themselves, saying: "What is this? A new teaching! He authoritatively orders even the spirits the unclean, & they obey Him." (Mk.1:23-27)

the people began bringing Him all those who were ill & those demon-possessed.... & He expelled many demons , but He would not let the demons speak, because they knew Him to be Christ.... And He did go, preaching in their synagogues throughout the whole of Galilee & expelling the demons. (Mk.1:32, 34, 39)

Even the spirits the unclean, whenever they would behold Him, would prostrate themselves before Him & cry out, saying: "You are the Son of God." But many times He sternly charged them not to make Him known. (Mk.3:11,12)

And He formed 12, whom He also named "apostles", that they might continue with Him & that He might send them out to preach & to have authority to expel the demons. (Mk.3:15)

Also, the scribes that came down from Jerusalem were saying: "He has Beelzebub, & He expels the demons by means of the ruler of the demons." So, after calling them to Him, He began to say to them with illustrations: "How can Satan expel Satan?" (Mk.3:22,23)

"However, whoever blasphemes against THE Spirit THE Holy has no forgiveness forever, but is guilty of everlasting sin." This because they were saying: "He has an unclean spirit." (Mk.3:29, 30)

Well, they got to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gerasenes. And immediately after He got out of the boat a man under the power of an unclean spirit met Him from among the memorial tombs. He had his haunt among the tombs; & up to that time absolutely nobody was able to bind him fast even with a chain, because he had often-times been bound with fetters & chains, but the chains were snapped apart by him & the fetters were actually smashed; & nobody had the strength to subdue him. And continually, night & day, he was crying out in the tombs & in the mountains & slashing himself with stones. But on catching sight of Jesus from a distance he ran & did obeisance to Him, &, when he had cried out with a loud voice, he said: "What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I put You under oath by God not to torment me." For He had been telling it: "Come out of the man, you THE spirit THE unclean." But He began to ask him: "What is your name?" And he said to Him: "My name is Legion, because there are many of us." And he entreated Him many times not to send them out of the country. Now a great herd of swine was there at the mountain feeding. So they entreated Him, saying: "Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them." And He permitted them. With that the spirits the unclean came out & entered into the swine; & the herd rushed over the precipice into the sea, about 2,000 of them, & they drowned one after another in the sea. But the herders of them fled & reported it in the city & in the countryside; & people came to see what it was that had happened. So they came to Jesus, & they beheld the demon-possessed [man] that had had the legion; & they grew fearful. Also, those who had seen it related to them how this had happened to the demon-possessed [man] & about the swine. And so they started to entreat Him to go away from their districts. Now as he was boarding the boat, the [man] that had been demon-possessed began entreating Him that he might continue with Him. (Mk.5:1-18)

He summoned the 12, & He initiated sending them out 2 by 2, & He began to give them authority over the spirits the unclean.... & they would expel many demons .... (Mk.6:7,13)

a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit heard about Him & came & prostrated herself at His feet. The woman was a Grecian, a Syrophoenician nationally; & she kept asking Him to expel the demon from her daughter. ...At that He said to her: "Because of saying this, go; the demon has gone out of your daughter." So she went away to her home & found the young child laid on the bed & the demon gone out. (Mk.7:25, 26, 29, 30)

"Teacher, I brought my son to You because he has a speechless spirit; & whenever it seizes him it dashes him to the ground, & he foams & grinds his teeth & loses his strength. And I told your disciples to expel it, but they were not capable." ...So they brought him to Him. But at the sight of Him the spirit at once threw [the child] into convulsions, & after falling on the ground he kept rolling about, foaming. And He asked his father: "How long has this been happening to him?" He said: "From childhood on; & time & again it would throw him both into the fire & into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have pity on us & help us." ...Jesus, now noticing that a crowd was running together upon [them}, rebuked THE spirit THE unclean, saying to it: "You speechless & deaf spirit, I order you, get out of him & enter into him no more." And after crying out & going through many convulsions it got out; & he became as dead, so that the greater number of them were saying: "He is dead!" But Jesus took him by the hand & raised him up, & he rose. So after He entered into a house His proceeded to ask Him privately: "Why could we not expel it?" And He said to them: "This kind cannot get out by anything except by prayer." (Mk.9:17, 20, 25, 38 )

After He rose early on the first day of the week He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had expelled 7 demons . ..."Furthermore, these signs will accompany those believing: In My name they will expel demons ...." (Mk.16:9, 17)

Now in their synagogue there was a man with a spirit , an unclean demon , & he shouted, with a loud voice: "Ah! What have we to do with You, Jesus You Nazarene? Did you come to destroy us? I know exactly who You are, the Holy One of God." But Jesus rebuked it, saying: "Be silent, & come out of him." So, after throwing the man down in their midst, the demon came out of him without hurting him. At this, astonishment fell upon all, & they began to converse with one another, saying: "What sort of speech is this, because with authority & power He orders the unclean spirits , & out they come?" ...Demons also would come out of many, crying out & saying: "You are the Son of God." But rebuking them, He would not permit them to speak, because they knew Him to be the Christ. (Lk.4:33-36,41)

Even those troubled with unclean spirits were cured. And all the crowd were seeking to touch Him, because power was going out of Him & healing them all. (Lk.6:18, 19)

In that hour He cured many of sicknesses & grievous diseases & wicked spirits.... (Lk.7:21)

John the Baptist has come neither eating bread nor drinking wine, but you say, "He has a demon." (Lk.7:33)

And the 12 were with Him, & certain women that had been cured of wicked spirits & sicknesses, Mary the so-called Magdalene, from whom 7 demons had come out.... (Lk.8:1, 2)

But as He got out onto land a certain man from the city who had demons met Him. And for a considerable time he had not worn clothing, & he was staying, not at home, but among the tombs. At the sight of Jesus he cried aloud & fell down before Him, & with a loud voice he said: "What have I to do with You, Jesus Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me." (For He had been ordering THE spirit THE unclean to come out of the man. For over a long time it had held him fast, & he was repeatedly bound with chains & fetters under guard, but he would burst the bonds & be driven by the demons into the lonely places.) Jesus asked him: "What is your name?" He said: "Legion," because many demons had entered into him. And they kept entreating Him not to order them to go away into the abyss. Now a herd of a considerable number of swine was feeding there on the mountain; so they entreated Him to permit them to enter into those. And He gave them permission. Then the demons went out of the man & entered into the swine, & the herd rushed over the precipice into the lake & drowned. But when the herders saw what had happened, they fled & reported it to the city & to the countryside. Then people turned out to see what had happened, & they came to Jesus & found the man from whom the demons came out, clothed & in his sound mind, sitting at the feet of Jesus; & they became fearful. Those who had seen it reported to them how the demon-possessed man had been made well.... However, the man from whom the demons had gone out kept begging to continue with Him.... (Lk.8:27-38)

Then He called the 12 together & gave them power & authority over all the demons & to cure sicknesses. (Lk.9:1)

"Teacher, I beg You to take a look at my son, because he is my only-begotten, &, look! a spirit takes him, & suddenly he cries out, & it throws him into convulsions with foam, & it scarcely withdraws from him after bruising him. And I begged your disciples to expel it, but they could not." In response Jesus said: "O faithless & twisted generation, how long must I continue with you & put up with you? Lead your son over here." But even as he was approaching, the demon dashed him to the ground & violently convulsed him. However, Jesus rebuked THE spirit THE unclean & healed the boy & delivered him to his father. (Lk.9:38-42)

"Instructor, we saw a certain man expelling demons in Your name & we tried to prevent him, because he is not following with us." But Jesus said to him: "Do not you men try to prevent [him], for he that is not against you is for you." (Lk.9:49, 50)

Then the 70 returned with joy, saying: "Lord, even the demons are made subject to us in Your name." At that time He said to them: "I began to behold Satan already fallen like lightening from heaven. Look! I have given you the authority to trample underfoot serpents & scorpions, & over all the power of the enemy, & nothing will by any means do you hurt. Nevertheless, do not rejoice over this, that the spirits are made subject to you, but rejoice because your names have been inscribed in the heavens." (Lk.10:17-20)

Later He was expelling a dumb demon. After the demon came out, the dumb man spoke. And the crowds marveled. But certain ones of them said: "He expels the demons by means of Beelzebub the ruler of the demons." ..."Because you say I expel the demons by means of Beelzebub. If it is by means of Beelzebub I expel the demons, by whom do your sons expel them? Because of this they will be judges of you. But if it is by means of God's finger I expel the demons, the kingdom of God has really overtaken you. ...When the unclean spirit comes out of a man, it passes through parched places in search of a resting place, &, after finding none, it says, 'I will return to my house out of which I moved.' And on arriving it finds it swept clean & adorned. Then it goes its way & takes along 7 different spirits more wicked than itself, &, after getting inside, they dwell there; & the final circumstance of that man becomes worse than the first." (Lk.11:14-26)

And look! a woman with a spirit of weakness for 18 years, & she was bent double & was unable to raise herself up at all. When He saw her, Jesus addressed her & said to her: "Woman, you are released from your weakness." And He laid His hands on her; & instantly she straightened up, & began to glorify God. ..."Was it not due, then, for this woman who is a daughter of Abraham, & whom Satan held bound, look! 18 years, to be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?" ..."Go & tell that fox, 'Look! I am casting out demons & accomplishing healing today & tomorrow, & the 3rd day I shall be finished.' " (Lk.13:11-16, 32)

The crowd answered [Jesus]: "You have a demon. Who is seeking to kill You?" (Jn.7:20)

In answer the Jews said to Him: "Do we not rightly say, You are a Samaritan & have a demon ?" Jesus answered: "I do not have a demon ... The Jews said to Him: "Now we do know You have a demon." (Jn.8:48, 49, 52)

Many of them were saying: "He has a demon & is mad...." Others would say: "These are not the sayings of a demonized man. A demon cannot open blind people's eyes, can it?" (Jn.10:20, 21)

Also the multitudes from the cities around Jerusalem kept coming together, bearing sick people & those troubled with unclean spirits , & they would one & all be cured. (Acts 5:16)

the crowds were paying attention to the things said by Phillip while they listened & looked at the signs he was performing. For there were many that had unclean spirits, & these would cry out with a loud voice & come out. (Acts 8:6,7)

as we were going to the place of prayer, a certain servant girl with a spirit [a demon] of divination, met us. She used to furnish her masters with much gain by practicing the art of prediction. This [girl] kept following Paul & us & crying out with the words: "These men are slaves of the Most High God, who are publishing to you the way of salvation." This she kept doing for many days. Finally Paul got tired of it & turned & said to the spirit: "I order you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her." And it came out that very hour. (Acts 16:16-18)

"He seems to be a publisher of foreign demons." This was because he [Paul] was declaring the good news of Jesus & the resurrection. (Acts 17:18)

And God kept performing extraordinary works of power through the hands of Paul, so that even cloths & aprons were borne from his body to the ailing people, & the diseases left them, & the spirits the wicked came out. But certain ones of the roving Jews who practiced the casting out of demons also undertook to name the name of the Lord Jesus over those having the wicked spirits, saying: "I solemnly charge you by Jesus whom Paul preaches." Now there were 7 sons of a certain Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, doing this. But in answer THE spirit THE wicked said to them: "I know Jesus & I am acquainted with Paul; but who are you?" With that the man in whom THE spirit THE wicked was leaped upon them, got the mastery of one after the other, & prevailed against them, so that they fled naked & wounded out of that house. (Acts 19:11-16)

I say that the things which the nations sacrifice they sacrifice to demons , & not to God; & I do not want you to become sharers with the demons. You cannot be drinking the cup of the Lord & the cup of demons ; you cannot be partaking of "the table of the Lord" and the table of demons. (1Cor.10:20,21)
Furthermore, [it is] you [God made alive] though you were dead in your trespasses & sins, in which you at one time walked according to the system of things of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, the spirit that now operates in the sons of disobedience. (Eph. 2:1,2)
But THE SPIRIT SAYS DEFINITELY that in later periods of time some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to misleading spirits & teachings of demons , by the hypocrisy of men who speak lies.... (1Tim.4:1)
You believe there is one God, do you? You are doing quite well. And yet the demons believe & shudder. (Jam.2:19) This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, animal, demonic. (Jam.3:15)
Beloved ones, do not believe every spirit , but test the spirits to see whether they originate with God, because many false prophets have gone forth into the world. By this you know the spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses Jesus Christ as having come in the flesh originates with God, but every spirit that does not confess Jesus does not originate with God. Furthermore, this is the spirit of the antichrist which you have heard was coming, & now it is already in the world.... This is how we take not of the spirit of truth & the spirit of error. (1Jn. 4:1-3,6)
{Compare with the KI.} And I saw coming out of the mouth of the dragon & out of the mouth of the wild beast & out of the mouth of the false prophet, 3 unclean spirits like frogs. They are, in fact, spirits of demons doing [performing] signs, & they go forth to the kings of the entire inhabited earth, to gather them together to the war of the great day of God the Almighty.... And they gathered them together to the place that is called in Hebrew Har-Magedon. (Rev. 16:13, 14, 16)

After these things I saw another angel... And he cried out with a strong voice, saying: "She has fallen! Babylon the great has fallen, & she has become a dwelling place of demons & a prison of every unclean spirit ...!" (Rev.18:1,2)

RESEARCH about: " THE > SPIRIT -- THE > HOLY (ONE) "
Is "The Holy Spirit" a FORCE, or a Sentient BEING -- or BOTH ?

The Watch Tower Bible & Tract Society's view on "The Holy Spirit"
deviates dramatically from the over-whelming majority of Bible-believing Christians, scholars, & researchers.
WT dictionaries contain the following very brazen & shocking statement that summarizes their view
& executes THE SPIRIT THE HOLY ONE !!!.

" The Scriptures themselves unite to show that
God's HOLY SPIRIT is NOT a
PERSON
but is God's active FORCE

by which he accomplishes his purpose and executes his will
."

Insight p.1019, & Aid p.1543 ~ INSIGHT On The Scriptures (1988) is the updated version of AID To Bible Understanding (1971)

WOW !!! ~ IF The Holy Spirit is just a force, then I (& any truth-seeker)
would be compelled by intellectual honesty & integrity, to abandon belief in the Trinity & become a JW !!!
An honest, careful, thorough comparison of WT opinion with Scriptural evidence, shows there is no need to accept WT conclusions.

I don't view my work as a THEOLOGICAL DEBATE. There's no prize for the winner.
This research is to help JWs think about their eternal destiny -- it's about you & God, not about me.
If WT teaching is wrong, you are picking a fight with the most AWESOME BEING in the universe!
The Holy Spirit has emotion (intellect & will) & can be INSULTED & OUTRAGED !!!
Heb.10:26-31 warns:
For if we practice sin willfully {or stubbornly, or mindlessly, or blindly, or foolishly} after having received the accurate knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice for sins left, 27 but [there is] a certain fearful expectation of judgment & [there is] a fiery jealousy that is going to consume those in opposition. 28 Any man that has disregarded the law of Moses dies without compassion, upon the testimony of two or three. 29 Of how much more severe a punishment, do YOU think, will the man be counted worthy who has trampled upon the Son of God & who has esteemed as of ordinary value the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, & who has OUTRAGED THE SPIRIT of undeserved kindness with contempt? 30 For we know him that said: "Vengeance is mine; I will recompense"; & again: "Jehovah will judge his people." 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of [the] living God.
According to WT opinion:
  • only God the Father is Jehovah
  • The (Paraclete) Holy Spirit = God's Active Force
  • Jesus is a sub-God (a.k.a Michael the archangel).
  • According to Scripture:
  • Jesus is our Paraclete (Lawyer / Advocate) ~ 1Jn.2:1
  • The Holy Spirit is also our Paraclete ~ Jn.14:16,26; 15:26; 16:27

  • (Greek allos = another of the same kind -- not different-kind-heteros).

    Therefore:
  • God The Father -- as the Active Force PARACLETE -- is same as Jesus, & must be demoted to the archangel level.

  • Or, God The (Paraclete) Son must be elevated to equality with God The Father.
  • And God The Spirit -- as same as Jesus PARACLETE -- must be promoted to equal Personhood & Godhood !!!
  • In other words, The Trinity is alive & well.
Like the atheist who doesn't believe in God, JWs are in for a shock when they meet THE SPIRIT THE HOLY Paraclete-Lawyer-Advocate.

Because of deliberate, consistent, repeated, systematic emphasis, programming & reinforcement
(a.k.a. re-education, conditioning, mind control, thought reform, brain washing),
JWs automatically equate & substitute the Bible expression
"The Holy Spirit" with the WT's phrase "Active Force",
    e
    ven though
the "Active Force" phrase is a MISTRANSLATION & found only ONCE in their own Bible!!! See the NWT at Gen.1:2.

    SCRIPTURE distinguishes between:
  • The Awesome PERSON & the awesome POWER of The Holy Spirit (throughout Scripture)

  • The GIVER & the GIFT -- in Acts 2:4 for example:
"...they all became filled with HOLY SPIRIT & started to speak with different tongues,
    just as
    THE SPIRIT
was GRANTING them to make utterance".
So obviously "pneuma" is not POWER-only or PERSON-only.
The truth is that HE is an Awesome PERSON
    AND demonstrates HIS Awesome POWER.
