Middle School All-Region
Orchestras
(6th-8th Grade)
The audition process, for
each instrument, is before a panel of 5 judges from the region.
A cello student, for instance, will perform selected scales,
etudes, and musical excerpts for a set of 5 judges in a room.
Every student is assigned an audition number and remains anonymous
throughout the audition procedure. The judges are unable to see
the student while auditioning. Scores are posted 30-45 minutes
after everyone has completed the audition, when the ranking becomes
official.
The philosiphy for Kimbrough
is to allow only advanced sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students
participate in this audition. Beginning sixth grade students
and seventh grade students do not usually have a positve experience
with this early audition. The focus of the sixth grade orchestra
is to learn basic playing skills. The seventh grade focus shiftes
to more performance skills, but will concentrate on All-City
auditions, as well as, Kimbrough Orchestra auditions.
