Project Gutenberg Literary Archive, Univ. of North Carolina, presents Steven Sills books

As poetry, through gilded word choice and ornate tiers of meaning, brings us into the complexity of a given moment in time, so prose is an epic of a main character seeking to establish his own individual meaning throughout the course of his life. Within this web site you will find links to both the poignant poetry and prose of the works of Steven Sills.

The New Poets Series in Baltimore Maryland first published Steven Sills’ poetry, An American Papyrus, in 1990. This book is in 100 libraries including Princeton University, Yale University, and New York City Public Libraries. Brigham Young University has it catalogued as controversial literature and notes two poems that they consider as "anti-Mormon." An American Papyrus (poetry) Corpus of a Siam Mosquito (a literary novel) and now Tokyo To Tijuana: Gabriele Departing America (a literary novel) are in digital archives. They are catalogued in the Internet libraries at the University of Pennsylvania’s Online Books, the University of Wisconsin’s Internet Public Library, the Internet Archive in San Francisco, and of course Project Gutenberg which has published the digital versions of the works. Tokyo to Tijuana: Gabriele Departing America is a work that has taken over a decade to complete. Scholarship of the works is welcomed and readers are encouraged to access the links for the free downloads but remember that the works are the ownership of the author.

Literature tends to be realistic slices of life that diverge from the myriad genres of escapism that permeates the market. As such, university sponsored archives exist to further the quest to preserve works of cultural importance. Readers are encouraged to use Project Gutenberg and other archives that offer works for public enlightenment. Feel free to contact the authors who give of themselves to undertake such prodigious tasks.

Special appreciation is extended to the Canadian library scientist, Victoria Nowell, for all of her kind effort in helping to edit the books. To broaden the content of this site Victoria has kindly given permission to allow excerpts of her letters to Sills on myriad topics from cosmology to love be shown on the site. From Voltaire's classical literary novel and philosophic statement, Candide:

"A great work must be novel without being far fetched; frequently sublime; but always natural. The author must know the human heart and how to make it speak. He must be a poet without letting any of the characters speak like poets and he must be master of his language, using it purely and harmoniously., and not letting the rhyme interfere with the sense. Whoever fails to observe any of these characteristics, though he may gain public applause with one or two plays, will never be reckoned in the number of good authors."
