Who Is Sheherazahde?

Basic Information:

• Name:Sheherazahde. This name was given to me by my first official spiritual teachers (Fred and Jill of the MorningStar Coven). Sheherazahde is the famous story teller from the Arabian Nights; and I am a bit of a story teller myself. The name my parents gave me was Eva Maria Snyder. I use both. I just realized that some people do not know who Scheherazade is so here are some links that should help. (I only added an "h" and dropped a "c" from the traditional spelling)

• Gender: Female

• Marital Status: Single

• Children?: One adorable neutered male cat.

• Occupation: Administrative Assistant. When I can get it.

• Education: B.A., Empire State College, Religion and Social Change (sociology).

• Residence: A little 2 bedroom apartment in Cayuga Heights, on the outskirts of Ithaca NY. I share this apartment with one male housemate and two cats. I would really love to live in one of those old Victorian mansions covered with gingerbread and girded by screened poarch.

• What's With The Web Page?: When I first noticed that a lot of people had web pages I wanted one too. I have many friends in the computer business and they always assured me that putting up a web page is easy and all one needs is a computer literate friend to do it. But somehow they never got around to doing anything. When I moved in with my current housmate in the summer of 1998 my friends set me up with a new (to me) computer and internet access. I registered with Geocities in September and taught myself HTML using their tutorial and a borrowed copy of the "koala" book.

Other Information:

• Current Occupation: Administrative Assistant. Right now I am working as a temp through Manpower mostly at Cornell.
• Past Occupations: Museum staff (Neuberger Museum, Purchase NY.) It was college workstudy (SUNY Purchase). Production line for a computer factory, piece work for IBM through contractors. Book store clerk. Screen printer. Production supervisor for a Pagan jewelry manufacturer (Magi Crafts). Manager of a leather crafts store (Tandy Leather). Now Admin Asst.
• Current Projects: Accumulating an unreasonably large collection of books (ongoing). Collecting everything with Terry Pratchett's name on it. Recovering from a disasterous relationship. Reading everything from religion to philosophy to magick to SF and fantasy novels. Attempting to build a Pagan community where there is none. Organizing local Pagan activities such as Pagan Pride Day and the Goddess 2000 Project.
• Religious Background: Fourth out of five girls. My parents were never very explicit about their own beliefs. They have now told me that if anyone asks I can say that my parents do not know what they believe. Although my mother also agrees that I get my paganism from my dad. ("...two peas in a pod." is what she says)

  My parents like to travel so we spent some time in Europe (Austria, and Switzerland for me, my older sisters were born in Germany). We moved to Vestal, NY, the year I was born and my parents put us in Catholic (Our Lady of (the Seven) Sorrows) school because they did not like the public school. I always knew we were not Catholic and in second grade I remember telling the nuns I was a Pagan. Nothing came of it and my parents do not remember the incident.

  As I grew up I felt a need to find a religion that matched my personal beliefs. I regected Christianity for several reasons:the treatment of women, the history of religious atrocities, the attitude toward homosexulity, the obviously false assertion that their's is the only true "god". Islam and Judism were out for most of the same reasons. I also looked at Buddhism, Hinduism, Native American beliefs. Unfortunatly almost every religion I looked at failed the Feminism test. It was not until I met some Witches at a SF convention (the shortlived TriCitiCon, that one of my sister's boyfriends helped organize) that I found a religion that didn't actively degrade women.

• Etcetera:I love chocolate, hate spiders, love snakes, like to sing, compusive reader, frequently depressed. I avoid alcohol and most sources of caffine e.g. coffee, tea, and cola because they cause me to become depressed. I don't smoke, I don't drink - beer, wine, coffee, tea or cola. The only way I socialize is at Wiccan and Pagan events.
  Can't spell to save my life. Love to argue, not easy to offend. Often depressed but usually cheerful and talkative. My favorite picture of myself is here.
