Buhangin Missionary Baptist Church

When I visited Davao last August 1998, I saw a difference in the attendance of Buhangin MBC. Compared to my last year's visit, the attendance now has increased much for one year period. There are new faces I saw, and new youth members who are active in the services. Last year, these new young people who are active were just visitors. They were contacted as a result of the children's Vacation Bible School, a few blocks away from Buhangin church. One young girl, nicknamed "Inday", who attended the VBS became the channel for the VBS teachers in finding those new responsive contacts who have now become active church members.

The Pastor, Romy Jardinel has been active in evangelism and visitation with his wife, "Lingling". They have many schedule for visitations and Bible studies. There are also a few seminarians who are involve in doing visitation every Saturday. The involvement of the pastor in active personal evangeslism has been a help in influencing the few Bible students in doing the same, and the "evangelistic atmosphere" provides a good training for members to learn easily and get involve in evangelism.

Our objective in the Philippine mission is to establish a strong, indigenous, and stable Missionary Baptist Church. A common problem in Philippine mission is that for long years of missions in the Philippines by missionaries, we see only a few have buildings. The lack of facilities and good buildings has been one of the factors in the slow growth of many churches. The Filipinos are religious people and are exposed to various religions, the majority of which are Roman Catholics. Though the word "church" means congregation and the church can be in the house (I Corinthians 16:19) or house' garage, the unbelievers could hardly understand that it is a church within the house. It will be a great help for the missions and churches in the Philippines who are growing to be helped by sister churches acquire church buildings. One of the needs of Buhangin MBC is lot and building. Let us pray that the Lord will provide for that need. ~ E.J.
