The Companion Site To The Internet's premier Ancient Egyptian Mailing List

This table was produced by Geoff Graham. Any arguments should be taken up with him ;-).

The first column gives how the sound is written on the list, the second how you can find it in books. The third column gives the hieroglyph, with it's Gardiner reference in the fourth.

3indicates some kind of a gutteral sound or 'stop'
*indicates a reconstructed word (so not actually found in texts)
_ _serve as " " or ' ' to avoid confusion with the ajin (')
/ /meaning something like "will likely have sounded like this"
