Measurements

An armour was always a very personal garment. A good fit insured protection, while a badly fitting armour could cause more bad than good.
While there is no substitute for personal fittings, the following illustrated instructions represent the necessary measurements for a fitted armour.

  1. Standing relaxed and even, Measure the distance from Armpit to Waist (the Waist is just above the hip-bone)
Measure on both sides (to make sure it's even) (A-left, A-right)

  2. Measure from the armpit to below the ribs (B-left, B-right)

  3. Measure the circumference of the Chest while expanding it fully (C)

  4. Measure the circumference of the Waist with stomach expanded (after a good meal) (D)

  5. Measure the distances from Armpit to Waist with one arm raised over the head and that side expanded (E-left, E-right) and the other arm retracted and that side contracted (F-left, F-right). Double check the B measurements in this position (they should remain unchanged)

  6. Measure the distance from Neck to Waist at the middle of the back (G) and at the middle of the front (H).
    (H) should be measured from the point where the chest bones begin.

  7. From the Solar Plexis to Waist (I)

  8. Arms extended, bring palms together in front of you. Measure the chest under this condition (J)

  9. From Shoulder Point to Shoulder Point (K)

  10. Measure maximum shoulder Width at the front (L) and at both sides (T-left, T-right)

  11. Distance from Neck to Shoulder Point in relaxed position (O-left, O-right) and from Neck to Shoulder Point with the arm raised over head (O1-left, O1-right)

  12. Measure Neck width at the front (M) and at both sides (R-left, R-right), and the Circumference of the Neck at its widest (N).

  13. Height of front of the Neck (P) and Height of back of the Neck (Q)

  14. Measurement (S) is the height of the colar (from the chin to the bottom of the neck) -- measured in a way so that the colar would not cut the chin.

  15. Arm Measurements:
From Shoulder Point to Elbow Point (U-left, U-right)
From Underarm to Inside of Elbow (V-left, V-right)
From Elbow Point to Wrist (above the wrist bone) (W-left, W-right)
From Inside of Elbow to Wrist (X-left, X-right)
Also measure the widest circumference at the upper arm (not illustrated -- (BA-left, BA-right))
-- Measure the widest circumference at the forearm (not illustrated -- (BB-left, BB-right))
-- and the circumference at the wrist (not illustrated -- (BC-left, BC-right))

  16. Leg Measurements:
Upper Leg Front, to Knee Point (Y-left, Y-right)
Upper Leg Back, to Knee Point (AA-left, AA-right)
Lower Leg Front, from Knee Point to Foot (Z-left, Z-right)
Lower Leg Back, from Knee Point to Foot (AB-left, AB-right)
Outside of the Leg (AC-left, AC-right)
Inner Thigh (AD-left, AD-right) -- Measure while moving the leg up and down to insure that the top of the cuise will not cut into the groin.
    Inside lower leg (AE-left, AE-right)
Also measure the widest circumference at the thigh (not illustrated -- (CA-left, CA-right))
-- Measure the circumference of the upper leg at the knee (not illustrated -- (CB-left, CB-right))
-- Measure the circumference of the calf (not illustrated -- (CC-left, CC-right))
-- and the narrowest circumference at the lower leg (not illustrated -- (CD-left, CD-right))
