Some Questions on Aromatherapy

  1. Explain the art of aromatherapy

This holistic therapy, which is science, make use of plant oils to promote health of body, soul and mind.

  1. How does aromatherapy influence the body?

Basically, the molecules of essential oils penetrate through the skin cells, where it is easily absorb into the lymph system and the bloodstream and then organs in the body. The highly, concentrated distilled essences uses the sense of smell to enrich our experience of the world as we react physically, emotionally and mentally. The inhalation of certain essential oils has the ability to evoke releases of certain brain chemicals, producing a calming effect on the body.[1]

  1. Explain what an essential oil is

Each plant oil has its own healing effect on certain parts of the body due to its life force or energy as found in different parts of the plants, i.e.. leaves, root, stem, flowers etc. The purity thereof is important.

  1. What is a carrier oil and name three

Carrier oils also referred to as base oils or vegetable oils are used to dilute essential oils, CO2s and absolutes before applying to the skin. They “carry” the essential oil onto the skin. Different carrier oils offer different properties and the choice of carrier oil can depend on the therapeutic benefit being sought.

Examples of carrier oils are sweet almond, apricot kernel, grape seed, avocado, peanut, olive, pecan, macadamia nut, sesame, evening primrose, walnut and wheat germ.

                          

  1. What oil will you use for headache, stress and sleeplessness

 Lavender – massages into temples

  1. Name four different ways how to use aroma oils 

Can be added to a bath, candles, handkerchief, massage, etc.
