Skill Description
Basic Combat First level of training in use of basic weapons e.g.. sword, seax (dagger) or axe, and shield
Advanced Combat  
Formation Combat Manoeuvres performed as a group e.g. the famous 'Shield Wall'.
Display Combat This is a more planned form of combat often seeming more realistic than the other forms of combat.
Spear Trained to fight with the spear as a hand-held weapon.
Polearm This includes weapons such as the Dane Axe, a two-handed axe 5 feet or more in length.
Florentine Trained to fight with two weapons simultaneously, one in each hand.
Basic Archery Safe use of the bow in combat. One of the more difficult of the combat tests due to the potential for serious injury if you make a mistake.
Advanced Archery The archer has to be extremely accurate in a wide variety of combat situations to pass this test. Definitely the most difficult of the combat tests.

The weapons we use are specially made for re-enactment combat and are BLUNT. No edged weapons are allowed in the arena and all weapons are checked before any combat display to make sure they are safe. Even the arrows used in our combat displays are made using birding blunts.

Any adult can take part in a combat display as long as they have passed the basic combat test and any others relevant to the weapon with which they wish to fight. Junior members are not usually allowed to take part in combat displays, but responsible juniors can train with the weaponry as long as they are properly supervised.
