Welcome! You've just linked up to one of the primary websites or "cyberports" of Hermetica West, an esoteric mystery school founded on the principles of Hermetic thought & philosophy. The teachings of Hermeticism are said to have originated with the ancient Greek figure of Hermes Trismegistus, the acclaimed "Thrice-Greatest Hermes". This god-like "entity", whether reckoned to be man or myth, was widely deemed to be the god of magic, the originator of writing & the chosen Messenger of the Gods. In his Mercurial aspect he bears a close resemblance to the ancient Egyptian god Tahuti, also known in the Hellenistic world as Thoth. The underlying roots of Hermeticism, according to most traditional interpretations, are thus derived from ancient Egyptian sources. However, the essential teachings of Hermeticism embrace the Perennial Philosophy that not only inspired the classical civilizations of ancient Egypt & Greece, but also that of Rome to some extent, where the figure of Hermes/Thoth is assumed under the guise of the god Mercury. Hermetic ideals of esoteric learning & culture also surfaced with the rise of the European Renaissance, during an era marked by a return to the classical ideals of Greek civilization.

The tenets of Hermetica West, therefore, represent a contemporary flowering of the sacred wisdom tradition that has always served to inspire poets, artists, mystics, scientists & philosophers throughout the ages. It is the express wish & purpose of those associated with Hermetica West to further advance the cause & universal spirit of Hermeticism in such a way that will ultimately help contribute to a Global Renaissance of unheralded proportions, such as to bring to fruition many of the prophetic dreams of the ancient seers & philosophers of antiquity. The prospects for our "global village" remain to be seen, but let us be inspired perhaps by the kind of "free thinking" reminiscent of the ancient city of Athens. To this end, may our Hermetic "cyberport" serve as a convenient launchpad to help steer the casual passerby or philosophically-minded sojourner to the virtual heights of Wisdom & Understanding! Yea, and may it yet serve to invoke a deeper sense of connection with the god-force within, so as to propel the spirit of the dedicated aspirant to the very summit of Mount Olympus, the legendary home of the gods! Indeed, no matter what aspect of the divine may emerge from within us, it is we for whom the gods exist. To paraphrase upon the wisdom of the Emerald Tablet, if the seed of the god-force be in each one of us, then verily must it follow upon the olde adage that: "...as above, so below...". In other words, only as we learn to mirror the divine can it ever truly begin to manifest in us. Such is the nature of the eternal knowledge that leads to the inner sanctuary of Hermes.
