Quotations

Murphy : "Every move was a step of doom."
Fischer: "I like to crush the ego of my opponent."

Before I forget download Yahoo Messenger! Why? Well one of its possibilties is to have access to their chesssite. You can meet a lot of interesting players, als also a bunch of fruitcakes, however, it is all in the game

I used to play with a Québecoise and while she was a beginner I wrote for her Chess-instructions.Since then she improved ( I will put it also in this page, whoever who needs it can take advantage of it then.
Never in my lifetime will I match these masters, but sometimes playing I experienced the same things as the quotes above...
and boy that’s a kick ...flying high....
the andrenaline pumping through the veins and getting high in the sweet victory.
Who needs dope?
This is one of the stimuli I get high from.
Other stimuli? Music... reading... love making... a poem.... the laugh of a child...
to see lovely females... a rose or any flower... the good fortune of a friend....
a close encounter with a soul that matches mine... success in the job... spring... art... beautiful things of all kinds... the exitement of a big catch while fishing ...
Oh, there are so many ...who needs dope ?

When I was younger, I was quite a good chessplayer.
I visited all local chess tournaments and often I got prizes.
Getting older and having all kinds of responsibilities, tasks and duties, I have had to neglect this passion.
And that will avenge itself later ... now I am but an average home-kitchen and garden chessplayer.
Still I like to play , if someone likes to play with me .. please be my guest. Here are some instructions for beginners:

Hi internetfriend As promised I send to you my own written chess instructions. I once did it for a friend who was complaining she lost all the time. Afterwards she wrote to me she improved a lot and has a reasonable rating now. But take these instructions for what it is worthwhile to you

If you play a game of chess look carefully what your opponent is doing : Try to recognize if he is a skilled player or just an amateur There are several clues to shift them Amateur :

1a Is moving in the beginning too much pawns forward

2a He does not care for the centre

3a He does not know what place is the best for the officers he places his horses on the sides and blocking with one bishop the other

4a he starts with his queen in the opening

5a he never cares for castling

6a he does not sustain his pieces by pawns or other pieces Trained player

1b Is moving a pawn then he develops his officers

2b Each move is pointed to get a hold on the centre

3b He shows that he knows how to put the pieces e.g a horse on the natural fields, the bishop open and half open diagonals

4b The queen his brought in during the midgame or end midgame on

5b Always try to the castling long or short depending on the situation

6b he sustains his pieces by pawns or other pieces and they works together Try to avoid the following

1 to have double or triple pawns they are so difficult to defend

2 to put the rooks in one line of the same colour they become such an easy prey of the bishops and queen

3 to put the rooks in such position they can be “forked”

4 be aware of the fact that by moving a piece you get in check and while preventing that the just moved piece can beat another powerful officer know the rules the rule of eating a pawn en passant

5 a pawn far forward can be very powerful if it is protected by officers or other pawns

6 train in the end game e.g 1 white king, 1 white rook against 1 black king… it is a won situation but you must be aware your opponent can lure you in a trap…stalemate!

7 train in the end game 2 bishops 1 king against 1 king it is to be won but u need to know the strategy

8 avoid as much as possible to play with the same piece two or more times at a row

9 try to gain tempo that is ,if you opponent play twice times at a row with a piece because you chased it away

10 be aware of the fact a pawn can fork two pieces thus attacking them at the same time and one of them is bound to fall

11 if you had won a piece thus having a head start try to force your opponent to exchange more, the exchange has to be equal a horse for a horse etc., in this way your opponent always will run behind the facts and when all powerful officers have disappeared your opponent is empty handed and u still have 1 officer left

12 Be mistrustful if your opponent offers you a mighty officer, is their an intention or is it simply a blunder?

13 do not be careless about your pawns (cherish them as well), know that each pawn has the marshal staff in his pocket (when u promote it)

14 if you do not know what to do, make then a move to consolidate your position for instance move pawn from a2-a3 o h2-h3 this also prevent the bishop and knight to become active at that side

15 Judge the position of your opponent if u think he has weak spots concentrate your attack to that point for instance if a pawn is weak and you can attack it twice while he can only defend it one time you will have success in weakening the position even more

16 Realize always that when you attack whatever piece I t has to be that your attack is sustained. 1 threat more than the defence is the gateway to success,

17 Realize if attacking and the attack and defence is equal do not force to attack , failure will certainly your share

18 study openings (gambits, Sicilian Spanish , French etc) and choose the one which fits the best to your temperament and character. If you like to see things from a retrograde point of view do not choose an aggressive opening

19 study end game positions it can be very revealing

20 if chess playing bores you quit then immediately

21 praise your opponent if he makes a good move this has two aims first it is sporting , second he can gloat so much that he gets careless and then you can strike back even better

22 if u have lost, do not mourn cause the victor of to day is the defeated of tomorrow… learn from your mistakes let the game be emailed to you and replay it and analyse.

23 ask a friend to whom you forward the lost game to give comments on that and ask for advise and tips

24 if you have to choose in exchanging of equal pieces, do choose then in a way you keep 2 knights , or 2 bishops, and not for the combination 1 bishop and 1 knight ( 2 bishops or 2 knights are a better combination than bishop +knight.

25 In the beginning of the game it is better to keep the knights , why ? because the board is then full and the knight is the only officer who is allowed to hop over pieces.

26 in the middle and end of the game it is better to choose for the bishop. Why ? well many pieces has disappeared from the board and you know the bishop come to power with open lines They say you can think in advance of chess moves … i do think that this is impossible. Only a computer can do that because it has an enormous database available which he can check.(Rebel is a very good training program… masters and grandmasters use it) What we mortals do is only to eliminate the bad moves and consider the possible good. Further more it is a matter of experience and intuition.

27 If your opponent had not castled his king and u did then lay pressure on him to give him check … maybe he can protect with putting before it a knight or bishop, however this point is under constant pressure for if he castles then the knight or bishop will fall. When the opponent brings another piece in the game to protect this threatened position you build up the tension to do as well

28 Try always to deprive your opponent of the castling. Goal ? One of the rooks will be worthless and will stand idle in his corner. Or when the king stepped forward he becomes immediately so vulnerable

29 Always look if a pawn or other pieces are offered, if it is not poisonous. This poison can be it unlocks your opponents situation (bishop, rook or queen) or it opens al of a sudden an attack of an other piece.

30 Sometimes, especially in the endgame your king can be protected by your foes own pawns , if the king does not eat them but hide between them it is a perfect hiding place, cause your opponent can not beat this pawns as he could have done with pawns of yourself

31 If you have the choice to beat 2 pieces at the same time choose then for the piece that is positioned the best, or choose to beat an undeveloped piece

32 if you promote a pawn it is not always wise to choose a queen sometimes you can choose a knight which brings your opponent directly in chess or at once at his doom

33 If u succeed in bringing your rooks on the 7th line (or 2nd ) and the hostile king is somewhere on the 8th line in 8 out of 10 cases it will be lethal one possibility with the 2 rooks you drive the king to a corner and inevitably checkmate will follow. Suppose the black king is standing on e8 bring then your rooks to a8 and h8 , the coup de grace is when in the next move you bring the rook of a7 to a8 or do it with the h7 to h8 ( all is depending what is standing more on the 8 line

34 An other powerful weapon is the sacrifice …sometimes you can sacrifice even a powerful officer but the gain can be that all of a sudden you can launch an unstoppable attack; a good position is sometimes better than an advantage of pieces

35 in cyberchess if a draw is offered to you by a higher ranked opponent accept it at once you gain more than he, vice versa decline a draw offer if your opponent is lower ranked

36 ignore all disturbing signals your opponent gives such as proposing sex, calling names ,insults and so on (if it becomes too annoying better quit and take the loss)

37 make a room private as soon you are playing…why…no other fruitcakes can come if not invited besides that if he/she disappears all of a sudden no one can take over the game and after your last move you only have to wait 10 minutes and then force forfeit. If it is a friend you need not to be so rigid you can reinvite him/her to finish the game

38 if someone is misconducting put a message on the billboard to warn others.. btw it often is very revealing to read it now and then you can avoid lunies

39 keep a record of your own ( a kind of blacklist)haved and never play them again it saves you annoyance, frustration or other emotions which can influence your next game.

40 never ask quarter or give quarter (undo option) in a rated game in tournaments in real life this is also absolute out of the question and besides that it blurs the real result of the game I once played a game and played like a cow, (this game I was bound to loose)but I told him I never ask or give quarter ) He accepted that till he goofed and then he begged me to undo… I declined and finally won the game.

41 try to avoid chatting during the game YM-chess is not meant for that (if u like to chat go then to a chatroom) Well, friend hope you can take advantage of that. Sincerely
In my younger days I played chess with people far away using my bank account .. I remitted one guilder and placed a remark at the sum e2-e4 ...after a while my opponent remitted the sum with his remark d7-d6.
And so on and so on... then after half a year the match was decided by checkmate or otherwise.
