        Traditional Malay Dancers
        Traditional Malay Dancers

        Whenever I watch the graceful Malay dances, I can't help but associate the moves
        with the gentle waves of the ocean. The dancers' faces, the men and women, are
        always serene with smiles of joy, and when I tried it out myself I found that I
        derived a peace within.

        Although the dances may look simple, they actually require quite a bit of discipline
        in body, mind and spirit, somewhat like ballet which I studied for many years. Then
        again, it seems that all forms of art must consist of these important ingredients.

        The scarves that you see the ladies holding are for a purpose. Traditionally, the
        men and women were not allowed to touch each other so the scarf is the link between
        the couple's hands. So romantic!
