La Bassat

The De Lavaublanche family, which owned the castles of Grillère and Faye, also owned the land of a small village in the Limousin region of France more then 100 years ago. The village name is Bassat!


In one of the most remarkable stories to emerge from WWII,
the History Channel revealed how Albert Goering, younger brother
of Nazi air marshal Hermann Goering, ran a series of rescue operations
inside the Third Reich, saving victims of the tyranny his brother helped
create. One of those saved was Albert Benbassat!


Jamaica Inn (1936) takes place in a ghostlike English coastline around the beginning of the 1800s. Daphne du Maurier was inspired to write the best-selling novel after visiting Jamaica Inn that stands to this day half way between Bodmin and Launceston. The suspense novel tells the story of a young woman caught in a conspiracy of treachery, piracy, and murder. The novel was made into a motion picture by Alfred Hitchcock and starred Maureen O'Hara and Charles Laughton (Jamaica Inn, 1939). In the novel, Daphen du Maurier mentions a squire from North Hills that owned all the land around Jamaica Inn, his name is Mr. Bassat!

Daphne du Maurier (1907-1989) was born in London into an artistic family with a rich historical background and became famous for her suspense novels.
