WORLD ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS BANNER
Living Waters responded to a request from The Edmonton Journal for local schools to participate in a banner project for the World Athletics Championships which was held in Edmonton in August 2001. LWCA was chosen to "sponsor" the country of Laos. Students from Grades 1 to 6 were asked to submit their ideas for the banner in the form of mini-posters. A combination of three ideas were used to produce the final layout. Thanks to Myrna Hanmer, a grandparent of the school, for many hours spent on the design and artwork for the banner. The picture above shows the banner on display at the school a few days before being delivered to The Journal. Around the banner are some of the many "postcards" which were written to the Lao athletes by LWCA students. These were included in a scrapbook which also handed to The Journal and was presented to the team to take back with them.
