Misconceptions

Most misconceptions about Wicca stem from the stereotype of witches and witchcraft passed down for centuries through church teachings (mostly Christian). We must also contend with misconceptions held by some claiming to be Wiccans themselves.
It seems as though the general population believes that Pagans are sexually deviant, amoral & downright evil.
Pagans have very high moral standards. We live by the Witches Rede:
"An it harm none, do what thou will"
And the three-fold law. Therefore if someone uses magick for evil or good the energy they project will come back on them but three times more intense.
Pagans do not want to negatively impact anyone, even indirectly. Wicca is not about putting spells or hexes on people. Wicca is about helping, not harming. We are Pagan because of our love and for the earth and all other beings. We want to live amongst others regardless of race, religion, philosophy or gender. We do not "spread the word". We will however, if asked share our knowledge with those who are interested. Wicca does not promote the renunciation of your own religion or the desecration of any holy objects from other religions. We value the diversity of all religions and philosophies and we harbor no intolerance for those who have differing opinions and beliefs.
We do not sell our souls or make deals with the Devil (there is no such being in our traditions). We do not use the belongings of people, hair, blood, and fingernails for evil magickal purposes. Pagans do not require the sacrificing of any living creature, human or animal. Wicca is not about communing with the spirits of the dead. We do however invite our loved ones who have passed over to visit with us at Samhain
Our greatest defense is to live as decent human beings and show the world that we are not like the stereotypes.
