About the Band

The band program at Tri-Valley High School forms a vital and important part of the Junior and Senior High School life.  The 1997-98 edition of the "Bulldog" band includes 78 Musicians in grades 8 through 12, 11 Majorettes, 12 Flags, 7 Honor Guard, and 2 Drum Majors, for a total performing group of 110 members.  Our group represents a large, colorful, visible, and highly disciplined segment of the school.   The band makes appearances at football games, 1 or 2 marching competitions, concerts, pep rallies, parades, and numerous other community events.  The band takes pride in itself and its school work, as the majority of the students attain honor roll status.  This year's repertoire includes a fiery Latin American oppener by Jay Bocook entitled Aztec Fire, which features a trumpet duet by Jason Kramer and Jim Bohner. The band will continue with Pictures at an Exhibition written by Moussorsky and arranged for marching band by Jay Bocook. The medley opens with the "Promenade" featuring a trumpet duet by Jason Kramer and Jason Stutzman, and continues into the pulsating rhythms of the "Hut of Baba Yaga" and concludes with the majestic sounds of the "Great Gate of Kiev." The majorette and flag squad are featured in the Larry Clark arrangement of the John Williams tune written for Star Wars called Cantina Band. The finale of the performance is the famous Over the Rainbow, from "The Wizard of Oz," arranged for band by John Higgins.  Tommy Barry is the featured trombone soloist. The field show is designed entirely by director, David Schmaldienst.

Our Goal

The goal of our marching band is to always perform with pride and have fun with each show.  We are not about competing every week and winning awards, but entertaining each audience, young and old.  We play music not for the awards, but for the enjoyment and to celebrate music in our school.
