I do not eat fish.
Yet I do eat meat. Is this an oxymoron. I think not. Reasoning. If it wasn't for humans cows would not be alive. The only reason cows, and other farm related animals are alive is because they are eaten. It's a whole "Is it better to have loved and lost, than to never have love at all." I believe it's better to have loved an lost, just as I believe it is better to have lived than to never lived at all.
Another point I have to add is farm animals cannot survive in the wild. They need man to live. Believe me I know, I have lived on a farm all my life. I have had pet cows, and sheep. Yet, I still eat beef and mutton. I believed I enriched the life they had on this planet, just as I would like to think I do to every human being I come in contact with. Yet, fish and other seafood are different. If it wasn't for man, fish would still be here, in fact they would not be merely alive but thriving in numbers never known to us. Fish can live without man, they deserve a chance to be free, the way they were intended to be all along.
And how are fish caught? They begin to die slowly of suffocation the moment they are pulled out of the water. Suffocation has got to be one of the most inhuman form of deaths known. Much less human than the techniques used to slaughter farm animals. Take my word for it, as I said before I have lived on a farm all my life. And fishing hurts other animals, too. Millions of birds and other animals suffer and die from injuries caused by discarded fishing hooks, monofilament line, and lures. Mammals who become entangled in fishing line are often trapped underwater and drown. In fact, wildlife rehabilitators say fishing litter is the single greatest cause of injuries to aquatic animals.
I have chosen to leave the fish I would normally have eaten in the wild, and give them the
chance to finish the life of freedom they began, the chance to reproduce and make fish stocks
thrive again.
But what about fish farms? What about fish farms? Ummm, much negative there too.
Polluting waters, decreasing the genetic diversity of wild species, and what do fish in fish farms
eat? They eat wild fish, "garbage fish" not suitable for human consumption. Nope, not going to
eat those either.
Yes I do keep fish in aquariums. Is this an oxymoron? Maybe. But the fish I keep have been
bred in captivity for many generations (most of them here in my home). The ones I keep have
not been taken from the wild, if it wasn't for me... They would not have been given life either.
I believe in the human treatment of animals. I do not believe in eating anything from the wild I
do not believe in eating seafood. Eating wild things is wrong. Isn't enough we destroy and
pollute their world? Why must we eat them too?
I am not an extremist, I am barely an activist. I do not push my opinions on others. I simply
state "I do not eat seafood." When asked why I will state my reasons. I did not get this idea
from anyone else. It's simply something I have come up with on my own. This is just
something I believe in.
I do not eat fish.
