TEACHING
PHILOSOPHY
"Individuals need to use their minds to be critical and to verify, rather than just accept everything they are offered, and to recognize that learning is a life-long process." - Piaget
Teaching is a process of learning and evolving. Rather than remain static, I try new approaches and activities in the classroom as I learn about their benefits for students. My enthusiasm for growth is especially focused on keeping up with new ideas and methods as they are introduced, and exploring their potential applications in the classroom.
In addition, I believe in student-centered learning, that each student brings knowledge to the classroom. It is then the teacher's responsibility to help students cultivate, develop, build upon and share their existing knowledge. Working cooperatively and in collaboration is the most conducive setting in which to learn and teach a language. Furthermore, language learning should be based in content meaningful to the students and should be challenging, yet fun. Task-based learning is the teaching method I have found to be most successful and the students seem to enjoy it as well.
