Historia
gentis Langobardorum I,7-9.
Excerpt from Paul of Warnfriet (Paulus "Diaconus" ) :
"7:
After the Vinnili [= Langobards] had emigrated from Scadinavia under the
leadership of Ibor and Aion, they came to the part called Scoringa where
they stayed for several years. For at that time
Ambri
and Assi, chiefs the Vandals, harried all the provinces in the vicinity
with war, and puffed up with pride over the many victories they had won,
they sent a message to the Vinnili that they should either pay taxes to
the Vandals, or else make ready for war.
Then
Ibor and Aion agreed, on the admonition of their mother, Gambara, that
it were better to defend their freedom by arms than to mar it by paying
taxes. and they sent messengers to the Vandal to tell them that they would
rather fight than become thralls. At that time all the Vinnili were in
the flowering of youth, but only few in number, for they had made out only
one third of the population of a not very large island (= Scadinavia).

And here the old tell a ridiculous fable, that the Vandals went to Godan
(= Odin) and asked for victory over the Vinnili, and that he answered that
he would give victory to the party he would see first when the sun rose.
Then
Gambara had visited Godan's wife Frea (= Frigga) and had asked for victory
for the Vinnili, and Frea had advised her that the women of the Vinnili
should let down their hair and arrange it around the face so
that
it would look like beards, and come early in the morning together with
the men and stand on the spot where Godan used to look first, when he saw
the rising sun through the window.
And
thus it happened. But when Godan saw them at sunup, he said "who are
these longbeards?" Frea had answered that to those whom he had given
a name he must also give victory, and thus Godan had let the Langobards
win.
This
is ridiculous and not worth considering, for victory is not in the hands
of men, but rather given by Heaven.
It
is certain that the Langobards got this, their later name, from their long
beards, untouched by scissors, while they were first called Vinnili, for
in their language "lang" means long and "bart" means beard. But
Wotan,
whom they called, with the addition of one letter, Godan, is the same god
whom the Romans call Mercurius [= Greek Hermes] and who is worshipped by
all Germanic peoples as a god; but he did certainly not live in these times,
but far earlier, and not in Germania, but in Greece. "

nun die Völker dort (in Skandinavien) zu solcher Menge sich vermehrt
hatten, daß sie nicht länger zusammenwohnen konnten, teilten
sie sich in drei Haufen ab und losten . Wer nun das Los zog , der Haufe
sollte das Vaterland verlassen und sich eine fremde Heimat suchen . Als
nun das los auf einen Teil gefallen war, setze der über sich
zwei Herzöge Ibor und Aio, zwei Brüder und junge frische Männer
, trefflich vor allen anderen , und zog aus. Ihre Mutter war Gambara, eine
kluge , vorsehende Frau, auf deren weisen Rat in Nöten sie ihr Vertrauen
setzen.
Die Winniler [ = "Das Volk der Wanen " ? ] zogen also aus Schonen mit ihren
Herzögen Ibor und Aio und kamen nach Skoringa und saßen
dort einige Jahre . Zu dieser Zeit bedrängten Ambri und Assi,
die Herzöge der Wendeln , alle nachbarlichen Länder mit Krieg.
Im Übermut ihrer vielen Siege sandten sie zu den Winnilern, sie sollten
entweder den Wandeln zinsen oder zum Waffengang sich bereiten. Da hielten
Ibor und Aio , mit Zuraten ihrer Mutter Gambara , für besser, mit
Waffen die Freiheit zu schirmen als mit Zinsesablösung sie zu
beflecken . Sie entboten den Wendeln , sie würden lieber kämpfen
als fronen . Awar standen damals die Winniler alle in der Blüte
des Mannesalters, aber waren in geringer Zahl , da sie ja nur den dritten
Teil einer mäßig großen Insel ausemacht hatten."
"Die Wendeln seien vor Godan getreten un hätten den Sieg über
dei Winniler verlangt, und der habe zur Antwort gegeben : Denen
werde er den Sieg geben , die er zuerst bei Sonnenaufgang erblicke . Da
sei Gambara vor Frea , die Gattin Godans , getreten und habe für die
Winniler den Sieg verlangt , und Frea habe den Rat gegeben , die Weiber
der Winniler sollten ihre Haare auflösen und um das Gesicht
in Bartes Weise zurichten , und früh morgens sollten sie mit den
Männern dasein , um sich Godan zu Gesich stellen dahin , wo
er aus dem Fenster gen Morgen zu schauen pflegte ; und so sei es geschehen
. Als Godan bei Sonnenaufgang sie erblickte , habe er gerufen : "
Was sind das für Langbärte ? !" Und Frea habe darauf gesagt
, er solle denen welche er den Namen gegeben , auch den Sieg schenken .
So habe Godan den Winnilern den Sieg erlaubt ."

Nous sommes des pionniers , contre nous il y a la culture "officiel" qui
a altéré les noms des nos Terres, nous agissons inspirés
de la Loi Primordial.
Nous voulons nous former rétrospectivement, pour ne regarder pas
à le passé mais à cela que reste éternel .
La CO a la référence costant dans la Tradition Eddique .
Nous prenons la route de Thule , pour échapper la colonisation des
nos esprits .
Nous refusons l’exaltation de la raison , le christianisme et le satanisme
, angles spéculaires du même phénomene.
Nous avons lié nos cœurs à Wôtann , à côté
de lui nous attendent nos Pères , avec qui nous désirons
nous réunir dans le combat .
L’Araldo
di Thule s’occupe , principalement , de la redécouverte du Ásatrú
en Langbard et de la tradition tribal lombard ; à travers
ça , tous les affilies peut contribuer à la formation de
la Communauté.
Nous
avons foi dans tous lesquelles qui veulent risquer notre nuit, pour assembler
ses flambeaux à nôtres .

Gambara
" significa lett. "portarice del gandr", l’asta runica ancor oggi utilizzata
dai gruppi Ásatrú . La corte dei Goðar della CO si chiama
"Corte di Gambara" . Molti cognomi vengono fatti risalire all’originario
"Gambara", come l’insospettabile piemontese italianizzato in "Gambarotta".
Il maschile "o" è un ulteriore adattamento all’italiano. Un legislatore
precedente a Rotari si chiamava , appunto, Gambara. Vi sono anche un paese
chiamato Gambara (BS) ed uno Gambaro (PC)
