Poems

(Gotten from the March Proverb Project)
March comes in
Like a lion, they say,
With brisk, chilly winds,
Until one day
The sun parts the clouds
To announce, "Here I am!"
And March goes out gently,
Just like a lamb.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 from Lori Wheeler
(Sung to Mary had a little lamb)
March comes in like a lion,
like a lion, like a lion.
March come in like a lion,
and goes out like a lamb.
March comes in with a great big wind,
great big wind, great big wind
March comes in with a great big wind,
and goes out with a breeze.

I FEEL
A lion is big
And very strong.
It has a tail
That's very long.
A lion can roar
In a great big way.
I feel like a lion today
A lamb is small
And soft and sweet.
It has a tail
That's short and neat.
A lamb can bleat
in a quiet way.
I feel like a lamb today!

The wind is full of tricks today
It almost blew me far away
It almost knocked me off my feet
as I went walking down the street.
The next time that I go outside
The wind won't take me for a ride
I know just what I will do
I'll put some glue on the bottom of my shoe.

 March Wind

Saucy March Wind has come to town
Blowing girl's dresses, tossing hats down,
Rattling the windows, trying to throw
Everything, everywhere! Blow, blow, blow!

Saucy March Wind is very sly,
Now in the branches, then in the sky,
Whisking unbrellas, thinking it's fun.
Don't let him catch you--Run, run, run!!
by Elsie Fowler

 KITES
The March wind is calling,
"come fly your kite!"
The wind is blowing
With all its might.

The kites are tossing
In the sky.
The wind is calling,
"come fly up high."

WHERE IS SPRING?

Some days seem like winter,
Some are nice and warm.
Rainy days and windy days,
Maybe it will storm.
Warm or cold or wet or dry,
What will the weather be?
I think Spring is trying to play
Peek-a -boo with me.

THE WIND
sent in by Mrs. Valliancourt
I hear the wind blowing and blowing and blowing.
It's singing a song that I know very well,
But whether it's coming or whether it's going,
I hear the wind blowing and never can tell.

Lambs and Lions ( London Bridge)
Lions and lambs come out to play, out to play, out to play.
Lions and lambs come out to play.
Lambs and lions! (have partners face each other, holding hands and swinging arms from side to side.)

Lions stand up and lambs sit down, lambs sit down, lambs sit down.
Lions stand up and lambs sit down.
Lambs and Lions! ( sit or stand as directed)

(Repeat the song, inserting new movements or sounds to match the verses)
Lambs all walk and lions jog
Lions twist and lambs jump up
Lambs say, "Baa" and lions Roar!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
March
March is blowing
Huffity puff.
March is showing
Liony stuff.
March is crying
“I really am
Trying to be
An April lamb.”
by Carol Quinn

These songs and poems were sent in by Mrs. Zartarian

March (Frere Jacques)
March comes in like a lion,
Windy and cold,
Cloudy and bold.
Soon it will be spring time,
Leprechaun and kite time.
Hip, Hip, Hooray!
Let's go play
OUTSIDE!

March
In March the wind
blows down the door
and spills my soup
upon the floor.
It laps it up
and roars for more.
Blowing once, blowing twice
blowing chicken soup with rice. ---Maurice Sendak

Little Wind
Little wind, blow on the hilltop,
Little wind, blow on the plains;
Little wind, blow up the sunshine,
Little wind, blow off the rain. ----Kate Greenaway

Wind Tricks
The wind is full of tricks today.
He blew my Daddy's hat away.
He chased our paper down the street.
He almost blew me off my feet.
He makes the trees and bushes dance.
Just listen to him prowl and prance.

I See The Wind (Hush Little Baby)
I see the wind,
When the leaves dance by.
I see the wind,
When the clothes wave "hi."
I see the wind,
When the trees bend low.
I see the wind,
When the flags all blow.
I see the wind,
When the kites fly high.
I see the wind,
When the clouds float by.
I see the wind,
When it blows my hair,
I see the wind,
Most everywhere!

I Like Kites (Three Blind Mice)
I like kites.
I like kites.
They fly high.
They fly high.
They keep on spinning round and round.
Sometimes they never touch the ground.
They fly through the air without a sound.
Oh, I like kites!

We Are Little Raindrops (Little Teapot)
We are little raindrops, watch us fall
>From clouds to ground, one and all.
Watch us as we get together to be,
A big water puddle for you to see.
We are in the puddles, see us flow.
Into the rivers, now here we go.
Watch us as we move right to sea.
A part of the ocean we soon will be! ----Gayle Bittinger

Rain Song (Frere Jacques)
It is raining, it is raining
On my head, on my head
Pitter, pitter, pat, pat.
Now I'm wet , now I'm wet.
It is raining, it is raining
On the plants on the plants
Pitter, pitter, pat, pat
Pitter, pitter, pat, pat
Now they'll grow, now they'll grow!

Fun In The Rain! (Three Blind Mice)
Rain, rain, rain
Rain, rain, rain
Dribble, dribble, sploosh!
Dribble, dribble, sploosh!
Grab your boots, your coat and hat,
Jump in a puddle and go kersplat!
Stomp about and become a drowned rat,
Rain, rain, rain
Rain, rain, rain.

So Long As There's Weather
Whether it's cold or
whether it's hot,
I'd rather have weather
whether or not
it's just what I'd choose.
Summer or Spring or
Winter or Fall--
any weather is better than no weather at all.
I really like weather.
I never feel whiney
when weather is rainy.
And when it's sunshiny
I don't feel complainy.
Weather sends me.
So---
Rain?
Let it SPLASH!
Thunder?
CRRRASH!
Hail?
Clitter-clatter!
What does it matter--
So long as there's weather! ----Tamara Kitt

Activities

Here are face shadows to go with learning about the sun and shadows.

We made a rain guage to record rain fall.

We made cloud shapes to go with It Looks Like Spilt Milk and then journaled about it.

We had kite day and everyone flew kites.

This year we are participating with the March Proverb Project, so we are doing some lion and lamb activites. Here are some pictures of this:<>

They made paper plate lions.

Here is a lion made from a dogbone.

We blew bubbles to see the colors of the rainbow in them. We also discussed wind during this activity.

Here are some St. Patrick's Day activities:
