A Sermon by Reverend Hollis Ray Mathis

reetings, holy children of God, in the wonderful name of our lord and saviour Jesus, the Christ. The sermon subject for today is:

The Anointing

If you are a new convert to the Christian religion you may not be familiar with the fact that Jesus Christ is the messiah, the anointed one. And you may wonder why Christians anoint with oil. There are two types of anointing in the Christian religion: there is the spiritual anointing that is when the Holy Ghost comes to dwell within a person. It's this anointing that brings the children of God alive spiritually, the inward man the soul comes to life. Secondly, there is the physical anointing, were a man of God comes with oil, and either pours the oil upon the head, or places the oil on a person with their hands. The word for the anointed one in Hebrew is messiah; the word for the anointed one in Greek is Christ. Jesus, the Son of God, the son of the Virgin Mary, is the Christ, the messiah, and the anointed one. Jesus the son of the Virgin Mary was anointed at his baptism. St.Matthew 3:1 then came Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto john to be baptized of him. 14. But john forbade him, saying I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? 15. And Jesus answering said unto him, suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered him.1.and Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 1. And lo a voice from heaven, saying, this is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased. Holy children, when the spirit of God, the Holy Ghost, descended as a dove from heaven lighting upon Jesus, this was the anointing: it is for this reason that Jesus, the son of the virgin Mary is called the Christ, the messiah, the anointed one. And when God gave Jesus the anointing it was without measure. St. John 3:34 (the apostle St. John was inspired of God to record these words about Jesus) for he whom God hath sent speaketh the words Of God: for God giveth not the spirit by measure unto him. The Father loveth the son, and hath given all things into his hand. 36.he that believeth on the son hath everlasting life: and he that Believeth not the son shall not see life: but the wrath of God Abideth on him. You may wonder, Holy children, why Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the son of the Virgin Mary received the anointing. He was anointed to preach the gospel to the poor; to heal the broken hearted. St.Luke 4:1 the spirit of the lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor: he hath sent me to heal The brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and Recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are Bruised. 1. To preach the acceptable year of the lord, Beloved of God, you too must receive the anointing, for except a man be born of water, baptized: and born of the spirit, receiving the washing of regeneration, and the renewing of the Holy Ghost he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. St.John 3:l there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler Of the Jews: 2. The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art come from God: for no man can do these Miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3.Jesus answered and said unto him, verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4. Nicodemus saith unto Him, how can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? 5. Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of The spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6. That which is born of flesh is flesh: and that which is born of spirit is spirit. Saints of God, the most wonderful thing that can happen to a man in this life, is receiving God's gift of the Holy Ghost. For it brings the inward man the soul to life. If you child of God will repent, and be baptized, in the name of the lord Jesus Christ; you will receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. On the day of Pentecost Peter preached to those men that had crucified Christ. And, when they come into the knowledge that they had crucified the Son Of God they came to peter, and the other apostles, and said "men and brethren, what shall we do ". Acts 2:38 then peter said unto them, repent, and be baptized every One of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the lord our God shall call. When I baptize children of God, I baptize in the name of the father, and in the name of the son, Jesus the Christ, and in the name of the Holy Ghost. Because of this commandment, In these verses of scripture Jesus Christ, the creator of every thing that is visible and invisible is speaking, and he says. St.Matthew 28:1 go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father, and of the son, and of the Holy Ghost 20.teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded You: and, lo, I am with you always even unto the end of the world. Amen. Brothers and sisters in Christ, if you are a new convert to the Christian religion you may not be familiar with the ritual of the laying on of hands. After you have been baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, a man of God, or men of God, should come and lay their hands upon you that you might receive the Holy Ghost. For it is possible that a person be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and not have received the Holy Ghost. But when men of God lay their hands on a person with the intent of that person receiving the Holy Ghost I believe that the lord takes of the spirit that is upon that man, or upon those men, and places it upon the candidate to receive the Holy Ghost. Acts 8:1 now when the apostles, which were at Jerusalem, heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: 1. Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they Might receive the Holy Ghost 16. (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the lord Jesus.) 17. Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. If a person has been baptized in an improper way, they may not receive the Holy Ghost. If a person has not received the Holy Ghost even though he has been baptized, it is scriptural to be baptized a second time. Acts 1:1 and it came to pass, that while Apollo's was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coast of Ephesus: and finding certain disciples. 2. He said unto them, have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, we have not so much As heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.3. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, unto John's Baptism. 4. Then said Paul; John verily baptized with the baptism of Repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him, which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5. When they Heard this, they were baptized in the name of the lord Jesus.6.andbWhen Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them: And they spoke with tongues, and prophesied. 7. And all the men were about twelve. Children of God, when men come after your baptism to lay hands on you that you might receive the Holy Ghost, you must receive the Holy Ghost by faith. Believe and receive: the world cannot receive the Holy Ghost, because they cannot see him. St.John 14:15 (in these verses of scripture Jesus Christ, the one that placed the sun, and the moon, and the stars in space in one day: Is speaking and he says) if you love me, keep my Commandments. 1. And I will pray the father, and he shall give you Another comforter, that he may abide with you for ever: 1.even the Spirit of truth: whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him: for he dwelleth with you, And shall be in you. Beloved of God, when the Holy Ghost comes to dwell with in you, you become a new creature, old things are passed away, all things become new. II Corinthians 5:1 therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new Creature: old things are passed away: behold all things are new.1. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation. Little children, it is the breath of Jesus Christ that brings the Holy Ghost. After the dead burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Christ Jesus came to his disciples, and breathed on them, and said, "receive ye the Holy Ghost." This was the reconciliation of God and man. St.John 20:21 then said Jesus to them again, peace be unto you: as My father hath sent me, even so send I you.22.and when he had said This, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, receive ye the holy Ghost, 23.whosoever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them, And whosoever sins ye retain, they are retained. Saints of God when Christ Jesus breathed on his disciples, and said "receive ye the Holy Ghost ", power come, the power to live the sin free life came, the power to preach, or teach, or to witness came. 1 john 3:9 whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin: for his seed Remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 1.in this, the children of God are manifest, and the children of the Devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. When Christ Jesus breathed on his disciples, and said receive ye the Holy Ghost salvation came. Titus 3:5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but According to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, And the renewing of the Holy Ghost. The kingdom of God came: Romans 1:1 for the kingdom of God is not meat and drink: but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. The ability to understand the scriptures came. 1 John 2:27 but the anointing which ye have received of him abideth In you and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same Anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, And even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. When Christ breathed on his disciples the gifts of the spirit came, the gift of wisdom, the gift of knowledge, the gift of faith, the gift of healing, the gift of miracles, the gift of prophecy, the gift of tongues, the gift of interpretation. 1Corinthians 1:7 but the manifestation of the spirit is given to every man to profit withal.8.for to one is given by the spirit the Word of wisdom, to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit. 9. To another faith by the same spirit: to another the gifts Of healing by the same spirit: 1.to another the working of Miracles: to another prophecy: to another to another discerning of Spirits: to another divers kinds of tongues: to another the Interpretation of tongues: ll. But all these work but all these worketh that one and the selfsame spirit, dividing to every man Severally as he will. Holy children, doctors can prescribe medicine, surgeons can cut, and sew but when it comes to healing, God has reserved that for himself: therefore if you are sick, call for the elders of the church, and let them lay hands on you and pray over you, and anoint you with oil. James 5:1 and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the lord shall raise him up: and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
