A Sermon by Reverend Hollis Ray Mathis

reetings, holy children of God, in the wonderful name of our lord and saviour Jesus, the Christ. The sermon subject for today is:

Saved By Faith Alone

Beloved, we as children of God are saved by faith, but when a person says that we are saved by faith alone, that is heresy. Here are the scriptures that the heretics usually use to teach this doctrine. Reading from the book of Ephesians, Ephesians 2.8 for by grace are ye saved through faith, and not of yourselves, it is the gift of God not of works, lest any man should boast.l0.for we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Beloved of God, grace is an unmerited favor. We, as children of God, did nothing to deserve God's favor. But from the foundation of the world God loved us, elected, selected, us to be his very own, and predestinated us, to be adopted into the family of God. For by grace are ye saved. Ephesians l.3 blessed be the God and father of our lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ according as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will. Brothers, and sisters in Christ, there are people that do not believe in the doctrine of predestination, and I am inclined to believe that they are not predestinated. But come into this knowledge children of God, all, let me repeat, all of God's children are predestinated, but not all men are children of God. There are in this present world wheat, the children of God, and tares, and the children of the devil. For by grace are ye saved through faith. If you are a new convert to the Christian religion, you may not be acquainted with how we, the children of God are saved by faith. When we, the children of God, place our faith and trust in the lord Jesus Christ, and in the blood that he shed on Calvary's cross, God the father, allows us to declare the righteousness of the lord Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins passed. This is how we, the children of God, be come perfectly righteous in the eyes of God. Romans3.23for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. 24.being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God to declare, i say at this time his righteousness. That he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus where is the boasting then? It is excluded, by what law? Of works? Nay. But by the law of faith therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. Beloved of God, we are saved by grace, through faith, and that not of ourselves, it is a gift of God, not of the deeds of the law, not of works of the law. I would like to mention at this time that we are saved by faith, for we receive the Holy Ghost by faith. The world cannot receive the Holy Ghost, because they cannot see him. St.John l4.l5 if ye love me, keep my commandments.l6.and i will pray the father, and he shall give you another comforter, that he may abide with you for ever.l7.even the spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him. But ye know him for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. We, saints of God, are saved by grace, through faith, is true. But there is more to salvation than just faith. Faith without works is dead. James 2.l4 what doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food. And one of you say unto them, depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled, notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body.what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works is dead, being alone. There are men, unorthodox men, men of the wrong opinion, that say baptism is not a necessity to salvation, but Jesus has said "except a man be born of water, and of the spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. St.John 3.l there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews the same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God, for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him Jesus answered and said unto him, verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God Nicodemus saith unto him, how can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mothers womb, and be 5.Jesus answered, verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and the spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God that which is born of flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the spirit is spirit. Christian brethren, the margin reference for these scriptures refer the reader to St.Mark l6.l6. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believeth not shall be damned. Beloved the holy scriptures say "he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, which implies, that he that is not baptized will not be saved. Baptism is so important to salvation that it is scriptural to be baptized for the dead. The apostle Paul speaking of the resurrection strengths his argument by saying, "if the dead rise not at all why are people baptized for the dead. L Corinthians l5.29 else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? Why are they then baptized for the dead. Because of the original sin of Adam, when a child is born into the world, they are alive physically, but dead spiritually, the inner man the soul must be brought to life. When the holy ghost comes to dwell within a person the soul comes to life. This outward body of flesh, and blood shall perish, but the inner man the soul is renewed day by day. The soul never grows old and dies. Almighty God, by the mouth of the apostle peter has made us a precious promise, and that is if we will repent, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, we shall receive the holy ghost. Acts 2.38 then peter said unto them, repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the holy ghost. There are multitudes of men that do not believe in the trinity, and only baptize in the name of Jesus. But I believe in the trinity, therefore, when I baptize, I baptize in the name of the father, and in the name of the son, the lord Jesus Christ, and in the name of the holy ghost. To be saved a person must find grace in the eyes of God, they must be a man or woman of the household of faith, they must be baptized out of the world, and into the body of Christ, they must receive the washing of regeneration, and the renewing of the holy ghost, they must repent. And they eat of the flesh, and drink of the blood of the lord Jesus Christ. Except a man eat of the flesh and drink of the blood of Jesus Christ he will have no life in him. And we eat of the flesh of Jesus wrist when we partake of the lord's supper. St.John 6.52 the Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, how can this man give us his flesh to eat then Jesus said unto them, verily, verily, I say unto you except ye eat of the flesh of the son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life, and i will raise him up at the last day for my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. Beloved, when the lord Jesus Christ shall return he will divide the nations as a man divides sheep and goats. He will set the sheep on his right hand and the goats on the left. And he shall say to those on his right, come ye blessed of my father inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me, i was naked and you clothed me, sick and you visited me. And they on the right shall say when did we minister to thee, and he shall say in as much you have done it to the least of my brethren you did it unto me. Then shall he say to those on the left, depart from me ye cursed, into the everlasting fire, for I was hungry, and you gave me no meat, thirty, and you gave me no drink, sick and you visited me not. Let me summarize what I have been saying.there are men that preach all a person has to do to be saved is believe. They preach that a person is saved by faith alone, but that is heresy. For a person to be saved, they must have found grace in the eyes of God from the foundation of the world. They must be of the household of faith, and they must place their faith in the lord Jesus Christ for their salvation. They must repent, for except a person repents, except a person turns from doing his own will to doing the will of God, and be sorry for his sins past, he will surely perish. For a person to be saved, they must be baptized out of the world, and into the body of Christ. For it is in Christ Jesus, in the body of Christ, that we receive eternal life. For a person to be saved, they must receive the washing of regeneration, and the renewing of the holy ghost. For it is the receiving of the holy ghost, that brings the soul to life. For a person to be saved they must work. They must be up and about the lord's business. For a person to receive eternal life they must eat of the flesh of the lord Jesus, and drink his blood. For except a person eats of the flesh of Jesus, and drinks of his blood he will have no life in him. Let me conclude with what i believe is the greatest verse of scripture in the bible. St.John 3.l6 for God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
