A Sermon by Reverend Hollis Ray Mathis

reetings, holy children of God, in the wonderful name of our lord and saviour Jesus, the Christ. The sermon subject for today is:

The Works Of The Flesh

The works of the flesh in the beginning before the sun and the moon were formed, God shaped and formed his only begotten son.

Isaiah 43:10 ye are my witnesses, saith the lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. 11. I, even I, am the lord; and beside me there is no saviour.

Brothers, and sisters in the lord Jesus Christ, we know that God created Adam from the dust of the ground, and we know that God created eve from a rib of Adam's side, but from what substance did God create the lord Jesus Christ? I believe that in the beginning God the father spoke, and he took his word, and he shaped it, and formed it in such a way that the word of God, became the Son of God.

St. John 1:1 in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God.

Beloved of God, Jesus Christ is the only God ever formed, formed from the word of God, the first born of every creature. What is a creature? A creature is something that has been created. God inspired the apostle Paul to record these words about the lord Jesus Christ.

Colossians 1: 12 giving thanks unto the father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light; 13. Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us onto the kingdom of his dear son: 14. In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins; 15. Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16. For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and the are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers; all things were created by him, and for him; 17. And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Saints of God, when God the father created the lord Jesus Christ, he created him equal to himself. For any two things to be equal they must be identical. therefore, Jesus Christ was created in the express image of God the father, looks exactly as the father, has the same power as the father, is of the same substance as the father. The apostle Paul recorded these words about Jesus the Christ.

Philippians 2:6 who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God.

Holy children, Jesus Christ, the anointed one, the messiah, is the only God ever formed, formed from the word of God, the first born of every creature, created equal to the father, and it was by the lord Jesus Christ, that God the father created all things.

Ephesians 3:9 and to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ.

Children of light, to give you some idea of the power of Jesus Christ, the son of God, it was he that created the sun, and the moon, and the stars, and placed them in space in one day. It was Jesus Christ, Gods darling son, which created Adam, and placed within him all mankind, in one day. When Jesus Christ created Adam, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, Adam became a living soul. When Jesus created man, he created him a trinity in unity. Man was formed in such a way that he had a living body, a living soul, and a living spirit. Man was whole or holy. God gave Adam a commandment that he could eat of every tree of the Garden of Eden. Except, the tree of knowledge of good, and evil; but in the day that he eat of that tree he would surely die. When Adam transgress that commandment, sin came into the world, and death. For the wages of sin is death. When Adam transgress the commandment of God, all mankind was in Adam, and because of our physical union with Adam, sin was imputed unto us all. Now when a child is born into the world, he is alive physically, but dead spiritually. He must be born again, he must be born of water, baptized, and of the spirit, he must receive the washing of regeneration, and the renewing of the Holy Ghost.

1 Corinthians 15:22 for as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

Saints of God, come into this knowledge, the carnal mind, the fleshly mind without the holy ghost is not subject to the laws of God, neither indeed can be. Before a person receives the washing of regeneration, and the renewing of the Holy Ghost, they cannot keep the commandments of God.

Romans 8:6 for to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7.because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

There are men that are never called to repentance, these are not the children of God. When God calls his children to repentance, and gives them the washing of regeneration, and the renewing of the holy ghost, the inward man the soul comes to life. The inward man the soul delights in the laws of God. The apostle Paul was inspired of God to record these words.

Romans 7:22 for I delight in the law of God after the inward man.

Holy children, after a person has been called to repentance, justified, glorified, translated out of the world, and into the body of Christ, and has received the washing of regeneration, and the renewing of the holy ghost, they must be very careful not to do the works of the flesh. For if they do the works of the flesh, the price is very high. They shall not inherit the kingdom of God. They shall not inherit eternal life, the immortal body, nor be heir, and joint heir with the lord Jesus, in the kingdom of God. let me at this time acquaint you with the works of the flesh.

Galatians 5:19 now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20. Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulation's, wrath, strife, sedition, heresies, 21. Envying, murders, drunkenness, reveling, and such like; of which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Holy children, I would like to call your attention to the number one reason that men shall not inherit the kingdom of God. The number one reason that men will not inherit the kingdom of God is adultery, and the number two reason is fornication. Young people, if you are not acquainted with adultery; if I were to define adultery- I would say, "adultery is when a married person has sex with any one other than their spouse. And fornication is a much broader term, and includes all unlawful sexual activity." If a person commits the sin of adultery, the price is very high, they shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Many years ago, a woman approached me, saying words that lead me to believe she wanted to play the roll of a harlot. And as she talked, I stopped her by saying, "the price is to high ". She said, "what do you mean the price is to high, I haven't got to the price yet?" and I said, "to do what you are suggesting I would have to give up, eternal life, an immortal body, and give up being heir and joint heir with Jesus Christ, in the kingdom of God, the price is to high." Come into this knowledge saints of God, adultery destroys the soul.

Proverbs 6:32 but whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding; he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.

Beloved of God, if a woman commits the sin of adultery, or fornication, her husband can divorce her and remarry without living in adultery. But, a woman can not remarry as long as her husband lives, without living in adultery. Multitudes, multitudes, of peoples are marrying into adultery.

Romans 7:1 know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law, ) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? 2. For the woman which hath a husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. 3. So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress; but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.

Saints of God, the next listed in the works of the flesh is, uncleanness. Uncleanness is defined as a person still in sin. Listen carefully, when Adam transgressed the commandment of God, we, the whole human race, where in Adam. And, because of our physical union with him; sin was imputed unto all mankind. And, when the spirit of God departed from Adam, we all died the spiritual death. The inward man the soul died.

1 Corinthians 15:22 for as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

Children of God, if a man dies outside of the body of Christ, he will die under the Law of Moses'. And, by that law no flesh shall be saved. But when a man is baptized out of the world, and into the body of Christ. The water of his baptism washes away his sins and the blood in the body of Christ; gives him a continuous cleaning. Not only does it cleanse the person in Christ, but also cleanse his or her children.

1 Corinthians 7:13 and the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him. 14. For the wife sanctifies the unbelieving husband, and the husband sanctifies the unbelieving wife; else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.

Beloved of God, I have heard many preachers preach, that a child is sanctified until the age of accountability, but that is not so. Children are sanctified by believing parents. But if neither parent believes the child is unclean. The next listed in the works of the flesh is, "lasciviousness" and this sin is committed when men lust after evil. Let me give you an example of lust. When men play football, there are two teams, and one football. One team has the ball and the other team lust after it. Men do not seem to mind breaking a persons arm, or leg to get at the ball. Some men are that way about another man's wife, or their money. But, we as Christians are not to covet things that belong to another. The next work of the flesh is, "idolatry". if the lord had not inspired the apostle Paul, to list this as the sixth work of the flesh, I would probably had thought it the first. For millions of peoples are bowing down to images, praying to images, and to do so is sin. It is not necessary to go into some foreign nation to see men and women bowing to idols. When God lead the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt, he gave them ten rules of conduct to live by, Ten Commandments. And the second commandment was basically this, "thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image." Listen as I read from the book of exodus.

Exodus 20:1 and God spake all these words, saying, 2. I am the lord they God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3. Thou shalt have no other Gods before me. 4. Thou shalt not make unto thee angry graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.5. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me.

The apostle St. John was inspired of God to record these words,

1 john 5:21 little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen
