A Sermon by Reverend Hollis Ray Mathis

reetings, holy children of God, in the wonderful name of our lord and saviour Jesus, the Christ. The sermon subject for today is:

The Godhead

Think on this, Deut:22:23If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; 24Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you. 25But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die. Fundalmentalist defined, “A movement with strict view of doctrine: a religious movement based on a literal interpretation of and strict adherence to doctrine based on Scripture, especially the New Testament. There is one Godhead, and in the Godhead are three divine persons; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost. The Apostle Paul was inspired of God to record these words. Acts:17:28For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. 29Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. 30And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: 31Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. The fullness of the Godhead dwells in Jesus.Col: 2:9For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. We, fundamentalist, believe that we worship one God in trinity, and in unity: neither confounding the persons, nor dividing the substance: But the Godhead of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, is all one: the glory equal, the majesty coeternal: such as the Father is, such is the Son, and such is the Holy Ghost. The Father uncreated, but the Son is the only God ever formed, created. In the beginning God spoke and he took his word, and shaped it and formed it, in such a way that the word of God, became the Son of God. Jn l:l In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. True light from true light, and true God from true God, there has never been another God formed: neither shall there be any formed after Christ was formed. Is:43:l0 Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen, that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am He: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be After Me. I even, I am the Lord: and beside me there is no Saviour. Christian brethren, God the Father is almighty, and Jesus the Son, is almighty, and the Holy Ghost is almighty, yet in the Godhead there are not three almighties, but one. So the Father is God, and the Son is God, and the Holy Ghost is God, yet in the Godhead we have one God. ” When God the Father created the Lord Jesus He created Him a quickening Spirit, a life giving spirit. 1 Cor:15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit; Jesus gives life to everyone born into the world. Jn:1:2The same was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4In him was life; and the life was the light of men. When men speak of the family tree, they mention men's names. Why? Because the genes, the seeds of man, proceed from the male of the species. For example, the bible says that Levi was in the loins of Abraham, even though Abraham was generations before Levi was born. And I believe that Jesus, the Son of God, as the Word of God, was in the Father from everlasting. Mic:5:2 But thou, Bethlehem EPHRATAH, though thou be little among The thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel, whose going forth have been from of Old from everlasting. Christ was the beginning of creation. Rev:3:13He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.14And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God. When God the Father created Jesus, He created Jesus in His express image, Jesus looks exactly as God the Father. Heb:1:1God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high: When God the Father created the Lord Jesus He created Jesus equal to himself. For any two things to be equal they must be identical. Therefore, was Jesus the same size as the Father, did Jesus have the same appearance as the Father, does He have the same power as the Father, was He created of the same substance as the Father? Yes, Jesus Christ was created equal to the Father. Phil:2:6Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: God the Father created all things by Jesus Christ. Eph:3:9And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: The word “Creature” defined-created thing: somebody or something that has been created. Col:1:15:Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. To give you some idea of the power of Jesus, the son of God, He created the Sun, Moon, and Stars and placed them in space in one day. Gen:1:16And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. 17And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, 18And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. 19And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. Before Jesus was sent into the world, the children of God knew that God had a Son, but did not know His name. Prov:30:4Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? Who hath gathered the wind in his fists? Who hath bound the waters in a garment? Who hath established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell? The Apostle John recorded these words.. Before Jesus came into the world being born of the Virgin Mary the name of the Son of God was a secret. Jud:13:17And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honour? 18And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret? There are three divine persons in the Godhead, each one has some unique qualities. For example no man can see God the Father. Jn:1:18No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. This is a unique quality of Jesus Christ; Jesus has the only name under heaven whereby men must be saved. The Apostle Peter said these words. Acts:4:12Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. This is unique about the Holy Ghost. If a person speaks a word against the Holy Ghost this sin shall not be forgiven in this world neither in the world to come. Mat:12:32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. Before Jesus came into the world being born of the Virgin Mary He was known as the Word of the Lord. The Word of the Lord came to Elijah in the cave. 1Kings:19:9And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah? God the Father came to Elijah at the cave. No man can see the Father’s face and live. Ex:33:20And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. Therefore when Elijah walked out of the cave to talk to God the Father he wrapped his mantle, sleeveless cloak, around his face. And God the Father spoke to Elijah. 1Kings:19:13And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah? Jesus Christ as the Word of the Lord came to Jonah. Jon:1:1Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, 2Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. When Christ returns for His bride the Church His name will be The Word of God. Rev:19:13And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. If a man does not believe in both God the Father, and Jesus Christ His Son, he is not a Christian at all he is antichrist. 1Jn:2:22Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. Everyone that confesses that Jesus is the Son of God; God dwells in him. 1Jn:4:15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. Let me conclude the preincarnation, before Jesus took human form this verse of scripture applied. 1Jn:5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. When Jesus came into the world being born of the Virgin Mary he was of two natures, He was both God, and man. I believe Jesus the Son of the Virgin Mary was a man; able to suffer, bleed, and die, because of these scriptures,Heb:2:16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. 17Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. 18For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted. Jesus, the Son of the Virgin Mary is God, Mat:1:23Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.(When God the Father by Jesus Christ created man He created man a trinity in unity; body, soul, and spirit.) You can see both natures of Jesus when He was on the ship with His disciples the bible says that Jesus slept. God does not sleep, nor slumber. Psalm 121:4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. God is always awake. But Jesus slept. Mark 4:38And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? 39And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? When Jesus rebuke the wind, and the waves, and they obeyed Him, that is God. Jesus, within whom is the trinity in unity lives; ask Peter this question,” lovest thou me.” Jn:21:15So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. 16He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. 17He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. When you are in trouble for religious reasons, and they take you into court, take no thought what you will say. Lk:12:11And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say: 12For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say. The four beast praising the trinity in unity. Rev:4:8And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, LORD God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. May the Lord bless you, and your family with good health, and prosperity in this world, and in the world tocome eternal life.
