A Sermon by Reverend Hollis Ray Mathis

reetings, holy children of God, in the wonderful name of our lord and saviour Jesus, the Christ. The sermon subject for today is:

The Holy Ghost

Think on this, "Liberty" is the freedom to do what is legal according to God's laws. Here are some of the titles of the Holy Ghost, The Spirit of, God, Grace, Truth, Adoption, the Comforter. The name Christ, means the Anointed one in Greek, The Word Messiah means the anointed One in Hebrew. When was Jesus Christ anointed? At His baptism when the Spirit of God descented upon Him. Matthew 3:16And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. There are two anointing the physical anointing when a man takes oil and places it upon the head of the person to be anointed. The second anointing is Spiritual when the Holy Ghost comes to dwell within a person. The most wonderful thing that will happen to a man in this world is the receiving of the Holy Ghost. When we, the Elect of God, receive the Holy Ghost it is the earnest of our inheritance. Ephesians 1:13In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. Christ offered Himself on Calvary's cross that we might be reconciled unto God." Every Born Again Child of God has the power to remit sin, and retain sin. Here is the reconciliation of God, and man. John :20:20Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. 22And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:23Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained. What is the Kingdom of God? The Kingdom of God is, Romans 14:17For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. There is one Godhead, and in the Godhead are three Divine persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost. In these verses of scripture the Holy Ghost is mentioned as the third person of the trinity. Jesus Christ, God's Darline Son, said these words to His disciples, Matthew 28:18And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: In these verses of scripture the Apostle Paul speaks of the Godhead. Acts 17:28For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. 29Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. 30And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: God is a trinity in unity, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Let me give you an example of trinity in unity. When Jesus Christ created man He made man a trinity in unity, Body, Soul, and Spirit. There are three divine persons in the Godhead each one has something unique about His person. For example God the Father is unique in this respect, if a person looks upon the face of God the Father they will die. Exodus 33:20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. Many men have seen the face of Jesus and lived. Exodus 33:11 And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. Jesus Christ is unique in this respect, He has the only name under heaven wereby men may be saved. Acts 4:8Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, 9If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; 10Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. How are we saved by the name of Jesus Christ? I believe, that the name of Jesus Christ is the Master Key to the Kingdom of God when we, the Elect of God are baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, we are translated out of the world, and into the body of Christ. Eternal life is in the Body of Christ. Acts:2:38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Amplified Translation. Acts:2:38And Peter answered them, Repent (change your views and purpose to accept the will of God in your inner selves instead of rejecting it) and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of and release from your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Galatians 3:27For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. When a man is Baptized out of the world and into the Body of Christ we are not judged by our life, but by the life that Christ lived. Romans:5:10For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. We, as saints of God, are saved by being strong in faith in name of Jesus Christ. Acts 16:31And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. We are saved by confessing the name of Jesus Christ. Romans 10:9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. This is one of unique qualities of the Holy Ghost, if a person says one word against the Holy Ghost is shall not be forgiven them in this world, neither in the world to come. Matthew:12:31Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. 32And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. There are, I believe, three ways knowledge comes into the brain. Through perception, the things you see, hear, smell, taste, touch through the senses. I believe that knowledge comes into brain through experience, the things you do, and the things you see done. But I believe that if you learn anything about the Lord Jesus Christ it shall be through revelation. Matthew 16:16And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. A man cannot even call Jesus Christ Lord except the Holy Ghost reveal it to them. 1Corinthians:12:3Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. When a person receives the Holy Ghost they receive power, power to preach, teach, witness, or whatsoever God calls them to do. Acts:1:7And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. 8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. When a person receives the Holy Ghost the inner man the soul comes to life, 2Corinthians:5:17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation. The inner man the soul delights in the laws of God. Romans:7:22For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: The Holy Ghost gives a person the power to live the sin free life. 1John:3:7Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. 8He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 9Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 10In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. When a person receives the Holy Ghost, the anointing he brings will teach you, and bring you into all truth. 1John:2:27But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. Except the Lord Jesus opens a man's understanding to the scriptures he will never understand the scriptures. Luke:24:45Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures. Saints of God you can recognized the Spirit Filled person, the work which His presence within accomplishes is, Galatians:5:22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. How do we receive the Holy Ghost? We ask God in prayer to fill us with the Holy Ghost Luke:11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? We are baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Acts:19:1And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, 2He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, we have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3And he said unto them, unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. 4Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. 7And all the men were about twelve. When the Holy Ghost comes to dwell within a person He brings a gift or gifts. Here are the gifts He brings. 1Corinthians:12:7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. When we assemble in the name of Jesus Christ, the gifts of the Spirit is to be a part of the church service. 1Corinthians:14:26How is it then, brethren? When ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. 27If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. 28But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. 29Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. 30If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace. Once you have received the Holy Ghost, and come into the knowledge of the truth, you must be very careful not to fall away, and renounce your faith; for if you do you cannot repent of that sin. Hebrews:6:5And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. There is coming a time of great trouble for the Christians; when they deliver you up to people in authority, take no thought what you will say. Mark:13:11But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.
