National Literacy Strategy: Framework for Teaching and The Literacy Hour
An index for teachers
The purpose of these pages is to publish an index for the literacy hour Framework for Teaching being taught in primary schools in the United Kingdom from September 1998. (Click HERE for resources created for the 2006 "Renewed" Primary Framework for Literacy.)
The indexes were created to help me in my work as a junior school teacher. They are intended to help in the following ways:
to provide a tool which would help give me an overview of the work that the children should be taught during the Key Stage;
to help me to link the work I am teaching to the work that the children have done before they come into my class;
to help me identify likely "gaps" in the children's experience. (Because the framework was not in place last year they may not have covered all the "expected" areas of work.)
to help me to decide whether activities or exercises from published books and other sources
are relevant to a particular term's work or whether, even though they are on the relevant theme, they are more appropriate to another term or year.
Now, in view of the information contained in the recently published Section 4 of the Framework for teaching, I expect the indexes to be particularly useful to me and to others in finding objectives suitable for pupils with Special Educational Needs. This link (Click here) elaborates this point.
The indexes just cover Year 3 to Year 6 work and I have no plans to extend this coverage.
I would very much appreciate some feedback on the likely usefulness of such a resource to other practising teachers.
Other resources, together with information for pupils in my class (and their parents) are available on my main site www.MrJennings.co.uk. Click HERE to transfer to this site.
