This page gives a pictoral synopsis on just some of our activities throughout the 1997-98 school year.  The page may take a few minutes to load completely due to the heavy picture use.  Thank you for being patient.

 TEACHER APPRECIATION BREAKFAST

One of the many activities that the teacher cadet program participates in is to host a breakfast for the teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week in Sumter District #17.  All the food is home-made by various Cadets and decorations are constructed.  The breakfast is given before school one day in the Teacher's Dining Room at Sumter High.

TEACHER CADET PUPPET SHOW

The puppet show is one of the first experiances in which the Teacher Cadets venture out into the many Elementary Schools of the district.  The Cadets are split into groups that each perform a different puppet show based on a piece of children's literature.  All the puppets are constructed in class and an entire week is spent traveling around the district performing the show.

MENTORING AND PRACTICUM

Throughout the year, the Teacher Cadets participate in two activities to sharpen education skills.  For the first four months of the school year on every Friday, the Cadets visit one of the elementary schools in the district and help students who may need extra help in a certain subject.

For the last three months of school, each cadet "adopts" a class in any of the schools in the district to participate in the end of the year praticum.  In this practicum the Cadets function as a student teacher and are required to construct a portfolio outlining the activities during the practicum.
