July 1, 1961 - August 31, 1997

She has come to be known as the People's Princess, but I wonder if anyone really knew the woman. I, like many others, watched her grand wedding and then, 16 years later, her funeral.

The world was stunned at her death and circumstances surrounding. To many, she was much more than a Princess and, although not a fanatic, I was fascinated with her from the first. She was a real-life modern day Princess...and I thought she must lead the kind of life that all little girls dream about.

From the Reading given by Lady Sarah McCorquodale at Diana's funeral:
"If I should die and leave you here awhile, be not like others, sore undone, who keep long vigils by the silent dust and weep. For my sake, turn to life again and smile, nerving thy heart and trembling hand to do something to comfort hearts other than mine. Complete those dear, unfinished tasks of mine - And I , perchance, may therein comfort you."

More than a Princess, Diana was also a wife, mother and a woman. She hurt, cried, had feelings of insecurity and doubt. But through it all, she held up beautifully and she supported causes she cared about. This made her more real and human to us all. Her charity work went beyond what was required and expected of her. You felt that she really cared even when the cameras weren't around.

We watched her comfort the sick, touch the AIDS patient, become a fashion plate, play with her kids.....we watched her grow into a beautiful woman from "Shy Di". We watched the fairy tale crumble and still we could not get enough of Diana.

The world famous wedding dress photo.

After her death, I heard a photographer say in an interview that Diana was a master at manipulating the press when she wanted to. I think that is true to an extent of every celebrity. But, after all the supposed dirt and bad press that came out after her death, none of that changes the fact that she was a good person and the world was a little better place because we had her here awhile.....

She was Royalty....and that wasn't taken away even when they stripped her title from her. She endeared herself to us with her smile, warmth and her love of rock and roll and pop music. Admitting to a failing marriage, bouts with buleima and depression only made her more human and more like us in our eyes.

At the time of creating this page, it has been a little over a year since her death. I don't think we should pretend Diana was a Saint but she was close....even with all of her alledged shortcomings and mistakes she made in the eyes of some, the good outweighed the bad. Decent human beings sometimes seem far and few between. I believe Diana was one of the most decent.
