When we arrived at the Myrtle Beach National, we
didn't expect such a perfect course, because 2 years ago we played the Myrtle Beach
National West Course, and we were really disappointed by the awful greens and the poor
fairways. But after playing Kings North in 1996 we know what a golf course should look
like, with it's perfectly cut greens and lush fairways. Water comes into play at nearly every hole and there are a lot of well placed bunkers and trees to make the game challenging. We had a remarkable day, as our internal Match play ended at the last hole, where Manuel had 4 yards left to the pin to play birdie, then three putted and lost the game. The reason we rated it with only three thumbs is the proximity of the fairways and the lack of open space. Kings

Cart Conditions of the course: The course was in absolutely perfect condition, even the water hazards were colored blue; the greens were extremely fast and also colored (The ball always had a light blue color, when coming of the green). This course is located in the hills north/west of Charleston. It is an hour's drive from Kiawah Island and a half hour drive from Charleston. The course runs through a forest and trees line every single fairway. After a well placed first shot you face a pretty difficult second shot, due to the well guarded greens. If your first shot was rather poor, you won't be able to reach the green with your second shot, because the fairways are often lined with small but extremely nasty little hills, that won't let you out that easy. The greens have many elevations and breaks, that it's not always easy to avoid a threeput, if you have to clear a long distance with your first put. This is a tricky course where it's not easy to play your HCP, but it challenges you from the first to the last hole. Unfortunately when we visited the course the last time,they had begun building houses along some of the fairways, especially on the 18th hole. This particular hole lost most of its beauty already, so we recommend visiting Crowfield Golf & Country Club as soon as possible.

Located at Port Charlotte on the Florida Gulfcoast, this absolutely beautiful resort course offers lots of water, alligators, snakes, birds and exceptionell well manicured greens. It is fun to play from every teebox, but rather demanding from the back tees, where you often have to carry 200 yards over water or marsh to reach the fairway. We started playing and enjoying this course in 1992, when we were both beginners and now that we got better we still love to play here. Besides, Riverwood Golf Club seems to be the most beautiful course in the vicinity of Englewood and Port Charlotte, where we love to spend our vacations. Located on Johns Island, one mile prior to Kiawah Island and 20 miles south/east of Charleston, this stunning 18 hole course is build on the remains of an old cotton plantation. This beautifully shaped golf course offers a relaxing and enjoyable round alongside salt marshlands and the kiawah river. Due to lots of water the wildlife and nature with its alligators, herons, palmetto pines and very old oak trees is worth watching while you enjoy the beauty of the course. This course is located an hour's drive south of Myrtle Beach. When we played it, the conditions of the fairways and the greens were not comparable with the courses we described above. However it was fun to play. The most beautiful hole of the course is the 18th, Par 5 Tom Jackson signature hole you see on the left. With your first drive you have to play over water and if you want to risk your score try to reach the peninsula in the middle of the picture. It is easy to reach from the white tees, but you need a pretty good shot from the back tee. If your ball reached the fairway you have an easy second shot once again over water to play an easy birdie.
