(That is me in the picture at the right - on the tee of #15 at Sherwood C.C. in Los Angeles. It's a 151-yard downhill par-3 that carries over a deep water hazard. If you look closely (just to the right of my head) you can see the yellow flag in the middle of the green.)

I haven't always loved golf - but it's always been a part of my life. My Dad is an avid golfer and has been playing since before I was born. In my home growing up, weekends revolved around golf... vacations revolved around golf... I guess it was just fate that the game would eventually grab my interest and suck me in! I had probably held a club in my hands less than 10 times in my whole life before February of 1997, but once I decided I wanted to play, there was no stopping me!

My husband, also an avid golfer, showed me the basics. I took lessons (both group and private) and, after playing my first 9 holes in April of 1997, played at least once a week for over a year. I stopped in March of 1998 after finally becoming pregnant for the first time. (I miscarried that pregnancy 3 months later and then another before becoming pregnant and giving birth to our two children (and future golfers, of course) in June, 1999 and June, 2000.) In May, 2001, however, I finally made my way back onto a driving range and did surprisingly well! My husband and I are joining a couples league and playing in a scramble (best-ball) tournament every other week. I hope to take more lessons and to get out with some girlfriends soon too.

I'd love to be able play more often (it's difficult with 2 young children, though!) and even though my game is really not that bad for a beginner, I'd like to play better (who doesn't?). I wish I had started playing earlier in life - you know what they say about teaching an old dog new tricks - and I sometimes wish my parents had pushed me towards golf when I was younger. My Mom's probably right, however, in her belief that if they'd pushed me into it as a child/teenager, I probably would've just pushed right back and ended up hating it. (Just ask her about my Grandfather forcing her to play the accordion!)

Regardless - I'm playing now and loving it! Golf can make me incredibly happy and, one minute later, it can frustrate me like there's no tomorrow (kinda like my husband)! I guess that's what is so fascinating about it and why I continue playing. I know I have the ability to make good shots/putts - I've seen them - I'm just waiting for that day when I can get 72 of them in one round!
