Records

In Brazil, no 7” has been released and all the 12” singles are not pressed for comercial use. They were pressed purely for promotion, given away to the radio stations and press. This is the reason they becomed desirable items for collectors. Another peculiar matter to relate about Cure releases here is that three rare compilations featuring The Cure with other artistis were issue in Brazil and this fact has never been mentioned before!
Starting from 1985 with the 12” promo of Inbetween Days (the first one in Brazil) to 1997 with the compilation titled Rock Hits (which featrures "The Lovecats"), this page shows you all the records from here that differs from the usuals...
Note: the picture sleeve of the promos: Inbetween Days, Never Enough, Catch, Lovesong, A Letter To Elise and The Cure In Brazil are not available yet.

Why Can't I Be You?
12”promo
Polydor (2801 200)
Undoubtedly, this promo is the most distinctive between all The Cure releases in Brazil. The fact is that all the records are produced by the brazilian Polydor, and it has not any connection with the Parched Art.
This promo plays at 33 1/3 rpm and features the 7” b/w the 12” extended version of “Why Can't I Be You?”. It remain as the most strange of all Why Can't I Be You? promos (on the globe) and it is impossible to find some copy nowadays.
On the sleeves of all brazilian promos we can see the words: ‘Promocional Invendável’, which means: ‘Promo Use Not For Sale’.

Lullaby
12”promo
Polydor (2801 340)
Once again, another promo with a totally different picture sleeve.
It features two tracks: “Lullaby” single version and “Lullaby” extended version and plays at 33 1/3 rpm.
On the cover of this record, there are the words: ‘Faixa extraída do LP Disintegration’, which means: ‘Track taken from the LP Disintegration’, so we can assume a total error!
Note that ‘Disco Mix’ is a sentence printed on all brazilian Cure promos.

High
12”promo
Polydor (280 1569)
This promo, which plays at 33 1/3 rpm, is a double sided of the 7” single of “High” and the front and the reverse side of the sleeve is totally red.

High
CD maxi single
(M-865565-2)
Finally a single pressed for comercial use (though no many copies were issued) in Brazil!
This CD single contains all the four tracks: “High” (single mix), “This Twilight Garden”, “Play” and “High” (higher mix). Also, this is the first single to features the standard album artwork.

Friday I'm In Love
12”promo
Polydor (2801 5830)
Even if featuring a different picture sleeve, this promo also includes some details of the standard album artwork.
With a very peculiar sleeve, this record is a double sided pressing of the 7” single version of “Friday I'm In Love” and plays at 33 1/3 rpm.

Wild Mood Swings
CD
PolyGram (5317932)
The brazilian Wild Mood Swings features all the tracks, but it was pressed under a purple picture disc format.

Close To Me
12”promo
Mercury (2801 143)
This promo contains the LP version of “Close To Me”, plays at 33 1/3 rpm and has other artist on the B side. It also features, on the reverse side of the sleeve, a small history about the sucess of Concert and Head On The Door.

Staring At The Sea
Releases in Brazil

Being the most idealized record here, three different CD editions of Staring At The Sea were issued in Brazil and all of them have different subtitles and unique picture sleeves. This fact has not been mentioned on The Cure On Record book what is a grief...
Below I show the second and thrid editon, `cause the first one has a standard sleeve:

Staring At The Sea
Minha Historia Internacional
CD
PolyGram (829239-2)
This is the second issue released. With a unique cover it has been pressed under a limited edition featuring the subtitle: Minha Historia Internacional (My International History). The most rare among all the three editions.

Staring At The Sea
The Cure In Brazil
CD
PolyGram (...)
This is the third edition, with the english subtitle The Cure In Brazil, but just released to promote The Cure concerts in Brazil at January`96. It also features a different picture sleeve and, once again, no much copies has been issued. It is a important CD for collectors...

Selva de Pedra
Brazilian sound track
CD, LP and Cassette
Also in Brazil The Cure has taken part on compilations! This is the first one, dedicated to a soap called Selva de Pedra broadcasted here in 1987, and features "In Between Days" a song which we could consider as the most important indeed, it quickly made the top chart being constantly played by the brazilian radio stations.
The song opened the 'doors' into the brazilain musical market, sincerely.

Deus Nos Acuda
Brazilian sound track
CD (400.2005)
LP (405.0031)
Cassette (745.0031)
This is a second compilation. Also dicated to a soap called Deus Nos Acuda broadcasted here in 1992 (a good year for the band where Friday I`m In Love made the MTV top chart and Wish becomed quickly the fourth-best selling LP). This compilation feratures "Friday I`m In Love".

Rock Hits
Brazilian compilation
CD
PolyGram (553 591-2)
A third compilation, but this time not dedicated to any soap. It has been released in July 1997 and features "The Lovecats". The Cure share the list with Siouxsie And The Banshees, Tears For Fears and others.
A peculuar release, surely!

Inbetween Days
12”promo
Polydor (2801 120)
Inbetween Days was the first promo to be issued in Brazil. Under a just plain titled sleeve, it contains other artist on the B side, plays at 33 1/3 rpm and has the LP version of “Inbetween Days”. It is peculiar of the brazilian way to spread other artists on the promos` B sides.

Catch
12”promo
Polydor (2801 209)
Catch has been the most unexpect release in Brasil. It plays at 33 1/3 rpm, issued with a standard sleeve, including the lyrics on the reverse side. Note that “Catch” has never been played in any radio station from here that I know of.

Lovesong
12”promo
Polydor (2801 373)
Playing at 33 1/3 rpm, with other artist on the B side, this promo just features a red and yellow titled sleeve.

Never Enough
12”promo
Polydor (2801 468)
This promo features “Never Enough” (big mix) + “Close To Me” (closer mix) and other artist. It plays at 33 1/3 rpm and just has a plain titled sleeve. Once again, this is another promo which has never been played in any radio station from here that I know of.

A Letter To Elise
12"promo
(Fontana 280/625)
Once again another unexpected promo released here (which, unfortunately, has not been much broadcasted by radio stations).
This promo plays at 33 1/3 rpm, features other artist on the B side and not issued with a picture sleeve.

Observations
The records: Three Imaginary Boys, Boys Don`t Cry, 17 Seconds, Faith, Pornography and Japanese Whispers were not issued in Brazil.
The LP Standing On The Beach has single pocket sleeve and not gatefold sleeve.
The Cure In Orange`s box has white words and not red words like the UK release.
