We are from Curitiba, a nice city in the south of Brazil with a population of 1. 5 million people, where there are a lot of independent bands trying to get in the international indie scene.
All over Brazil, UV Ray is considered one of the best groups that play something similar to the american and british “alternative” pop songs. This happens because we have been listening to 'this kind' of music since we were teenagers, about ten years ago. This kind here means music played by The Mighty Lemon Drops, Television, My Blood Valentine, Bauhaus, Ride, Sonic Youth, etc. The name UV Ray was “stollen” from a Jesus And Mary Chain’s song.
Our group has been playing since 1994. In the beginnig we played noisy and experimental songs with unclear vocals into a complete wall of sound. With the time these tendencies have changed to a soft and beautiful melodies altough we keep singing on top of the distorted electric guitar-walls. The lyrics are mostly nonsense and based on the melodies we create.
The band has two demo tapes and two tracks released in the CDs Brasil Alternativo 5 and Don`t Be Afraid My Son, compilations of brazilian independent bands.
We have six new songs recorded and we are looking forward to a label that would be interested in the group and its songs.
