A helpful guide to the world of mpeg3.

The purpose of the Mp3 Audio web site is to make the public aware of the absolute best possible digital sound quality available to them which is Mpeg audio layer three.

Mpeg audio layer three other wise known as mpeg3 or mp3 is a high compression sound format which maintains most of it's sound quality despite the high degree of compression (usually compressions of 12 to 1 can be achieved). What does this mean for you... Great sounding full length songs by your favorite artists.

In order to get you started and on your way to enjoying this awesome and vastly growing field you will need special software to play your Mpeg3 files: (recommending at least a Pentium, 6x86, power Mac or similar type of power class CPU)

The following are some widely used Mpeg3 players:

WinAmp, Winplay3, Jet Audio, MAPlay, MacAmp and TK3play.

The next thing you will need of course is some Mpeg3 files to play on your Mpeg3 player, these can be obtained in the IRC channels via DCC, also FTP, and from the WORLD WIDE WEB.

If you are in need of a particular song and want to find it fast you can use the Mpeg3 Search engine which is great for finding the song(s) you have been looking for.

These are the basics to get you started and on your way to the world of mpeg3 however there is more, such as playlist makers/shuffle play programs which will make a list of your mpeg3 files, give file information and play them for you, some also make a list of your mpeg3 files you have and play them but then on top of that shuffles up the sound/song mpeg3 files you have chosen to hear.

The following are some widely used playlist/shuffle play programs:

ShufflePlay, Mp3PlayListMaker, Mp3 Explorer and Mp3 Station.

If you would like to make your very own mpeg3. This was not meant to be a super easy task, however it can be done. You will need two different types of programs to accomplish making your very own Mpeg3 First you will need a program to copy your cd song to .wav format such as CDDA, GoldWave, CD-Worx, Cool Edit, Dido, WinDAC32  or  CD Copy.

Next you are going to need a program to convert your .wav file into .mp3 format. There are two very popular program used for this particular task the most and these programs are L3enc for DOS and Mpeg3Enc for Windows.

Of course there are other great programs to accomplish all the tasks listed that probably work just as well if not better than the ones listed above. These are the most widely recognized and used to our knowledge. If you are interested in seeing more programs that are available and getting more information on them please visit the Mpeg3 Software and Utility Web Site.
