Drogo de Monte-Acuto

I have worked for many years compiling my family history. Although every entry in my family records has been entered by hand and all data has been checked for accuracy, discrepancies are inevitable. I therefore request that anyone finding any discrepancies in my records please make me aware of them. I will verify them against available research materials and make corrections where warranted. This will make my family records even better and more accurate. Thank You.
If you have always wanted to trace your roots but didn't know exactly where to begin, may I suggest the following steps. First collect all of the information that you can from your relatives. Next find the nearest Mormon Church with a Family History Center and get the LDS PAF Family History program from them and then join their PAF Users Group. Then join an online service. Then visit various genealogy related Web Sites. After collecting as much information as I could from my family I visited our local LDS Family History Center. I soon discovered a Book written by George William Montague which had been copied on microfilm by the LDS. It is called "History and Genealogy of Peter Montague of Nansemond and Lancaster Counties, Virginia, and His Descendants 1621-1894". LDS Microfilm #0928298. It traced my Montague ancestors from, Drogo de Monte-Acuto and William the Conquorer, to my Grandfather, Fielding Montague. WOW!!! What a find. I then visited the CompuServe Genealogy forum, "GO ROOTS", and found a GEDCOM matching service. I submitted my growing GEDCOM file and was rewarded with hundreds of matches. Contacting many of those with name matches I discovered an unknown cousin in California with whom I am planning a visit. I have also visited many cemetaries and court houses over the past several years. They provide a wealth of information. I hope this small bit of shared information will help you trace your roots. HAPPY HUNTING!!!

If you really wish to find someones Genealogy Home Page visit Cyndi's Genealogy Homepage. It lists more than 27,000 links in more than 60 categoties.

I have recently found a good place to purchase genealogical books or even have them published. It is the Higginson Book Company located at 14 Derby Square P.O. Box 778 Salem, MA 01970 Phone: 508/745-7170. I ordered the Genealogy of Peter Montague from them which has been out of print since 1894. They will even send you free catalogues of reprints of old maps, local histories, and family histories. Just click on their name above to go to their web site. Please don't forget to mention that you saw it on Skiles Montague's homepage.

Check for possible matches on a World Family Tree Maker CD before purchasing it.
