That's chatting without IRC

So you think there's more to life than chatting on IRC. You are positively right. There is chatting on other kinds of programs that are not IRC related.

My favorite of the moment is Chat Planet where you must visit our room at Chatzoo 50. I've even got a page in here somewhere for you to load the screen to chat with us.

If you like it so much that you want to start your own Chat Planet chatroom, get the information here on how to do it.

But WAIT. There's more to do than just that.

I've actually tried some of these and others I've just heard about from friends. One great thing they all have in common, you get to talk, gossip, share secrets, and flirt with guys. What more can one ask?

Here's a few for you to check out if you're adventurous.

ICQ ... a very useful program that just sits on your toolbar and works for you. When the company gets the bugs out and learns how to keep the system up and running it will be wonderful. It already is a very handy little program allowing you to keep track of when your friends are online, direct email style messaging, direct file transfer, and chatting. It's a dandy. My advice is to try it out while it's still free because there is talk of charging for it. Once the developers get the kinks out, it will be worth buying, too. Right now it's just a bit too undependable.

Netmeeting ... a Microsoft product that may already be in the bundle of software you got with your computer. Lots of features. I'd have put a link on here for the download site but couldn't get connected to one. Either they're all broken or the demand is too high. In any case, if you don't know how to find microsoft on the web, then you don't need to worry about this program.

Voxchat ... Now this is a very nifty program if you like real voice chat. You need a mike and probably some other things that I don't know about. I just know that it works on my computer. It's great fun hearing real voices. It's easy to set up so give it a try. You just might like it.

Powwow ... Here's another I haven't had a chance to try. But judging from the number of times I run across the logo on web sites it must be another very popular one. I'll have to get around to trying it soon. If anybody is familiar with it, please fill me in. At least send me a little explanation blurb I can use in here to explain it to folks. You'll get credit for the contribution.

If you want to check out any of the others that I have left out here try these two sites. They are always excellent sources for new and old software. Tucows and Stroud's. Both offer a well-organised environment for you to find out about new software offerings with download info and critiques. Bookmark these sites for future reference.
