Update

Well it's been awhile since I updated my page, so I guess I'll catch everyone up on what happened to the money pit since the last update.

Spring'99

With the snow gone it was time to work on the beast again, more time and more money. If you have read Phase II you will remember that I removed the head and found a bent push rod, along with replacing this I also cleaned the head and replaced the valve guides. After re-assembling the engine and putting the Jeep back together it was time for a test drive.

The moment of truth would it start or would I put a match in the gas tank and have a marshmallow roast. I turned the Key and … NOTHING F*^&^*&^k. I said to myself, "what could be wrong"? I opened the hood, (well not really because it was still lying on the ground), and scratched my head for awhile and then I saw it! Right next to the distributor there was a ground wire that had been ripped from the block, I repaired it and tried the key again this time with a little coaxing she started! Rough but she was running.

Anyway that’s as far as I got, with the beast. Shortly after that around the middle of May I was told that I was posted (I'm a Lineman in the Military, if you wanted to know) to Petawawa, Ontario on July 7th. This was fantastic news I was going to be a lot closer to home and family, about 2500-km closer.

Summer'99

When we finally arrived, (my wife Micheline and daughter Kate-Lynn) in Petawawa. The first thing to do was to purchase a new home, we got lucky and found a nice home within a week and it had a 22x26-ft double car garage with remote doors, what more could a man want. No more working out in the rain, heat or snow and no more having to wrap up the Jeep and waiting 4-5 months to start working on it again. Life is good or is it? I was moving the money pit from storage to the new house when I pulled into the driveway bang, knock, clunk "what the hell was that" talking to myself again. I jumped out from behind the wheel and there it was a big oil puddle under the Jeep, well I pushed it into the garage and closed the door in disgust.

About a week later I looked at the Jeep again, and said to myself "she's just telling me that she wants more power" ah, that's it more power! What the hell, if I have to change the engine I may as well redo her from the frame up again? This time doing it right. So the journey of frustration, banged and bleeding knuckles and an empty wallet begins.

Fall'99

Well it's fall already and I've started to dismantle the beast good thing there's all new nuts and bolts on her. Started with the seats, doors, mirror etc. (the easy stuff).

Winter '99

I didn't get too far in the fall with all the Y2K hype, I was on the road a lot no time to work on the project. I now have her strip completely to the frame, there is nothing left to be unbolted from it. I managed to remove the skid plate (it had been welded on!). I also found the problem with the rear end (passenger side was 2" in front of the driver's side) the axle must have taken a good hit because the spring pad was badly damaged, causing the spring to move from it's perch.

The next thing to do is have the frame sandblasted when I get pics I will post them, until then look at these pics I just took, be warned she is naked!
