Why San Felipe?

The reason we chose San Felipe is we had a lot in El Dorado Ranch, seven miles north of San Felipe, for years. It wasn't until early in 1997 that we decided to do something with it. That something happened to be purchase the lot next door. This way we will always have at least one neighbor we can put up with, in addition to our friends Teina and Lou (our Baja VW Mechanic). Next we purchased a Winnebago 5th Wheel Trailer and hauled it down to the second lot. This has now become 'The Mother-in-Law House' since we constructed a strawbale home in the summer of 1998 and have moved into it in October of 1998. This was all for early retirement which happened April 10, 1998. Here are a couple of pictures what we have done so far.

Nosotros Tenemos a Remolque in San Felipe.

So far this project has been exciting to say the least. We have learned how to do business in Mexico (the NAFTA way) and really enjoy the local community. Going to the hardware store takes on a new meaning. Working our San Felipe Way, (work for an hour then drinking beer for two hours), is the only way to work and survive, in the desert, in the heat of the day.

Here is some of the gang hard at work, or is this the two hour rest time?

Here is an update on the trailer. Yes, there is a cover over it. After hurricane Nora and her 13 inches of rain overnight in late September, 1997, we decided it was time to cover her up to keep her dry and this should keep it cooler in the summer too. This was all done before Thanksgiving. Pictures of how the trailer looks today are at the bottom of this page, and the whole strawbale construction project is under another button on the homepage.

Here are a few of the pictures of the early days when we fixed up the trailer lot.
