KYLE'S OFFSHORE REPORT:

October 23 Fishing on the Aquasport We had a wide open bite for 2 hours and landed 11 yellowtail, 2 miles this side of North Coronado Island. All fish were on sardines and not little runts either, every fish was over 10 with the biggest going 16 pounds. No kelps our anything out there, they were just up top and on the chew. Morning winds were really rippin, then it laid down around 10. Caught all fish using bass gear which made for some great fishing. The season is still here for a while at least!

October 16 Fishing on the Aquasport Went to La Jolla for a Nothing, cold Green water produced nothing! Lousy Visablility under water...

October 10 Fishing on the Aquasport Ugly,Nasty, Windy... 4-5' windswells Really RUFF! unfishable-outside.Made the trip to the Coronados only to turn around when I finally got there The lee of South island had 20 knot winds with a 3-4 foot windchop.I have never seen it that bad, no protection anywhere, the wind is coming right up the coast from 150-180 direction.NOT FUN AT ALL Try golfing ...INSTEAD. Caught a few school size yellows around pt loma bouys coming home . Kyle Carden,,,,,, End of Season????

Saturday Fishing on the Aquasport Good News, Bad News..... the fishing offshore at the 302,425,371 was poor at best. Trolled the 371 AREA for 4 hours in and out for 1 small yellowfin Tuna, the fish are gone that were here last weekend....If YOU want to try your luck and burn extra gas and time ...Well,,,good Luck! The GOOD news... Yellowtail fishing at the Islands is the best bet.Very Decent Fishing for good sized yellows was found at the Middle grounds, and at the Ribbon Kelp-South Island. Yellows this time of the year at the Islands are BIG. Landed 5 in 2 hours after coming in from Nothingsville,Offshore!!! PS: 15-20 Knot ugly chop after 1pm makes for long ride home...

Sunday September 6.Fishing on my boat the "Aquasport",I headed for the 371 spot but got stopped 5 miles short for a nice bull dorado and a few yellowfin.1 mile short of 371 a small group of 3 boats all had fish going so I stopped, and caught 11 more small yellowfin. I noticed while I was hooking and hoisting, these boats were still on their fish. Guess what? Big Eye!!!It turns out after I talked with one of the anglers, he said he had been sitting there since 6am and had caught 5 BIG EYE all between 50-80 lbs.Awesome Fishing!!!!! BEST OFFSHORE bite of the year is happening RIGHT Now. FULL SPEED AHEAD, WIDE OPEN

Monday August 30. No need to go to Cardiff!!!! Yellowtail are on a big time Munch today. Fishing from 7-11 (4 hours)we landed 12 good sized yellows, Mostly all on bait Every spot in the La Jolla region was wide open every boat for as far as you could see had a angler hooked up. The 1/2 and North west was best for size and Quantity. Really good yellow Fishing!!!!!! Biggest was a 16 pounder, smallest 7 pounds

Friday,August 28. Fishing on the Aquasport, with brand new prop!! Coastal yellowtail fishing is red hot . Made the run up to North County off of Cardiff and Carlsbad. The yellows preferred blue/Mac CD -18 Rapallas. Caught 11 yellows 10 on the troll and 2 on live bait. Seas were nice and flat ,made the run fron Mission Beach to Cardiff state Beach in 45 Minutes,Could of went even faster if I wanted to push it.

Saturday,August 22. Fishing on the Aquasport we were again headed offshore for tuna or kelp paddy Yellows. The AQUASPORT never made it.......The propeller fell off!!!!..We were at 5-6 miles past the Coronados headed for the 425 spot when we said we better check the jigs and we stopped the boat when we put the boat back into gear there was no movement....It took about 10 minutes of head scracthing to figure out that the damn prop fell off!!!!We called vessel assist and 5 hours later we arrived back at the dock. We trolled while coming in and managed 2 yellows, 5 bonito's and 3 barries while being towed!!

Saturday,August 15 Fishing on the "J-Seas" Went in search of local offshore tuna, we Hooked and fought a est. 140-175 pound Big Mako to the boat in about 20 minutes. It was decided that we were not properly equiped to handle such a large shark first thing (7AM) in the morning, so it was released. The rest of the day was spent chasing alot of blue water for nothing but 3 yellows.

Tuesday,July 15 Fishing on the Grande out of Pt Loma Sportfishing

Went Albacore fishing. The fleet is at 72-77 Miles 180 from Pt Loma. Around the Double 220 spot and the Butterfly.Counted 14 Sportfishers and a dozen 6 pacs in the area, fishing was very good. Boat caught 111 albe's and 10 bigger bluefin tuna. I caught limits of albe's and 1 Bluefin. Largest Albacore was 23 lbs and the Bluefin was 25 lbs. Note: This area is only 30-40 Miles outside of Ensenada!!

Monday,July 5. Fishing on the Aquasport

Local fishing has finally dried up a little. Most of the big schools of Yellowtail have moved up North. Fished a half day tell noon and only managed 1 yellowtail and 2 barracuda

Sunday,June 28 Fishing on the J-Seas

WIDE OPEN!!!!!!Went to the Coronados with 3 other guys aboard a 28 foot Carver for Yellowtail fishing. Fishing started happening 2 miles short of North Island with a stop on a green Mac Rapala. Fishing EXPLODED for 2 hours!!! 27 yellowtail later with all said enough was enough! We drifted in and out with a huge school of tails that never seemed to leave the boat. 4 seperate times we had triple hook ups going and landed . Fishing for yellowtail just can't get much better than this. All Yellows were 10-12 pounds, not big but not small either.Every Yellow we filleted was just stuffed with red tuna crabs, I mean really stuffed! Its a wonder why these fish would bite Sardines after being so full. We heard a report on the radio of a guy at the 302 spot landing 11 Albacore. Fishing off of San Diego is as good as it's ever been in a long, long time.....Go get em while the gettins good!!

Friday,June 26 Fishing on the Aquasport

I took my 2 boys fishing to the La Jolla kelp beds today. Ryan is 5 and sean is 7. We only managed to fish for 1.5 hours before seasickness got to them. But in that time the kids managed to hook a Bonito and a yellowtail. LA Jolla was really wide open at the time but the kids were having more fun playing with the bait than fishing!

Sunday,June 20.Fishing on the Aquasport

Went Solo to the Coronado Islands. Fishing for Yellowtail was WIDE OPEN!! mostly in the Middle grounds, South side of North Island and the Ribbon Kelp off South Island.Hooked about 20 yellowtail and landed 8. I was trying to fish with 2 rods and was'nt doing very well on the landing part,Then switched back to using just one rod and hammered them. Most fish were 8-11 pounds, biggest fish was 17 pounds 35 inches

Sunday,June 7.Fishing on the Aquasport

Went in search of the elusive albacore tuna. We left the bait receivers at 5 am and headed out towards the 302 spot. We were met with very ugly conditions: White Caps,20 knot winds and 4 foot very tight wind swells.Spray was coming over the bow of the boat and being pushed right in our faces. It took 2 hours to cover 20 miles. We trolled hard for 6 hours, reaching as far as 37 miles off the Point, But only saw whales and flying fish....As we got tired of the long sloppy boat ride we decided to go into the Coronado Islands for some yellowtail fishing. Using Beat up sardines we managed to hook 3 tails in a little over 1 hour.We turned for home at 3 and reached Shelter Island around 4, Having burned 50 gallons of gas and running around 90 miles for 3 measly yellowtail!!!! Not one of the better days for sure! But alot had to do with the conditions and WIND.. From Radio Reports the Main body of Albacore moved north to the surrounding area around the 43 Fathom spot catches of 4 to 5 per Boat were heard over the radio but every body said the hot bite of earlier in the week is gone....Until next time good luck....

Sunday,May 17. Fishing on my boat "Aquasport"

Made the run to the Coronados in 45 Minutes.Started trolling Rapallas in the middle grounds.Saw birds diving and some fish up and moving but 30 minutes of trolling produced nothing. Then made the move to Ribbon Kelp,South Island,No boats were fishing here but soon I saw where they were.Upon reaching the end of south Island I could see at least a dozen Party boats and Maybe 50 private boats in a area from 2-7 miles south/southeast of the Islands fishing in 50-80 fathoms of water. I arrived in the area at 9:30 and set out 2 Rapallas. Within 1 minute I got a strike,it was a nice 15 pounder! then trolled another 5 minutes and got a double hook up.Then 2 more after that. I then started chumming by the scoop full and and caught 3 more on bait including a double hook up. It is now only 10:30! 8 Yellowtail in 1 hour!! and I stop fishing..................................................... ........Top fish Producers:....Rapallas:Blue Mac-3 fish,Green Mac-2 fish,Blk/silver-0 fish,Firetiger-0 fish,3 fish on Sardines. The size of the yellows were all nice,Every yellow measured between 29 and 33 inches, there were no dinks at all.The fish moving up the line now are nice sized ones. The run home was very tuff do to 20 knot winds and 4 foot wind swells, lots of water spraying over the bow!!! Could only manage a speed of about 10 Knots with getting airborne in my 20 footer! Happy Fishing

May 6 The area of the Finger Bank is still producing limit style action on yellowtail, this area is any where from 5 to 20 miles 160' from South Coronado Island. The 3/4 day boats along with private skiffs are fishing near the Islands or Mexican Coast for average's of 3 fish per rod. The La Jolla kelp beds are really starting to come alive with fish mostly in the morning, boats fishing here are now getting into steady action with boats averaging 1 to 3 yellows per rod.Fish are school type fish about 8-10 pounds. Happy Fishing!

April 24.

Yellowtail are advancing North in numbers and crossing the US border. Many fish are Heading up the finger bank to the outside of the Coronados, then over to the 9 mile Bank and on up. While another School is taking the inside route and coming up by the Border.Look for very good fishing 5-20 miles south of the Islands, down the finger bank (see last weeks report) The 9 Mile Bank and the border area should start to see the fish building in those area's as well. Look out for paddies past the 50 fathom curve off the beach.Good Luck!

Sunday,April 19. Fishing on my boat "Aquasport"

Calm Seas in the Morning made the 15 mile run to South Coronado Island in 40 Minutes a breeze. Started Trolling Cd-18 Rapalas past South Island, but no other boats were fishing there.Every thing looked pretty dead.Decision was made to head South, Ran full Speed for 10 Miles and started Trolling, Hooked up at very large Bonito right away, then spotted the fleet of 1 day boats about 5 miles away.Contacted my buddy Bill who was on his boat "J-seas" and he inforned me he had just hooked up with 2 yellows. By now my GPS said that I was 15 miles 160' from south Island or 32 miles 154' from Point Loma. I Quickly caught my limit trolling CD-18 Rapalas in Silver/Black color and Started turning north for the ride home. The Boat ride home took 2 and half hours, due to the fact the wind and swell coming directly at me. Arrived at Point Loma around 3 PM and Started Cleaning fish under the Monument. The size of the yellows were not that big this week, maybe 7-10 pounders, but there are sure a lot of fish out there just waiting for the water to warm up and come in closer to the beach. Happy fishing!

Saturday, April 11. Mission Bay. Dolphin II, 12 passengers

Small Craft Advisories, 5ft wind chop and 8 ft swells made for near impossible fishing conditions. We fished the entire Baja Finger bank, only catching 2 -yellowtail. By 10 am the decision was made to start heading back. We trolled Rapallas and steered up the 100 fathom curve in the direction of the Coronado Islands. About 5 miles South East of South Island we got a double jig strike on the Rapallas. It turned into 8-12 pound Bonito. In 10 minutes we landed limits of Bonito. Soon yellowtail in the 12 pound class clame up and started to chew on anything that swam. Iron,Sardine and Mac's you name it, these were hungry fish. in another 30 minutes the boat limited out. 120 fish in about 45 minutes! All this and fishing in smells that were rocking the boat from rail to rail! Everyone did an incredible job of hanging on and not falling over board while fighting their fish. This was one of the largest schools assembled together that I have seen in quite some time. The fish are out there if you have the stomach for it.
