Walking :
You can walk up the ball instead of running. Just hold down the DirectPass Button along with the directional keys.

Hook Shot :
To make a 'Kareem' hook shot, just press Pivot and Shoot together near the paint.

Free Throws :
You can stop the T-Meter before you attempt free throws. Just hold down the Pass Button. Releasing it would enable the T-Meter to start.

Secret Teams: Create a Custom Team from the roster screen's Drop Down Menu. You can key in one of the following names as the name of the Custom Team to access the Secret Teams which are made up of the entire NBA Live 99 Production Crew.
EA Europals
Hitmen Coders
Hitmen Idlers
Hitmen Pixels
Hitmen Rebounds

If you are bothered by the Ticker bug you can do this :

( The ticker bug is enabled whenever you start NBA Live 99 and it assumes that you are already connected to the Internet. This would cause the game to lock up and hang when you start it. )
How to fix this bug:

1. BEFORE you start the game, establish a Dial-Up Connection to the Internet. Then start the game, click on Options and move the Slider for the Ticker speed all the way to the left.
   After that, click on Details, select Gameplay from the DropDown Menu and set Display Ticker? to NO.
2. Or, you can manually find the File NBA99.INI in your NBA Live 99 Folder, open it in Notepad / text editor and make the following changes:
   
   • Set displayticker_gp to 0
   • Set tickerspeed to 0
