MOROCCO IN-DEPTH 15 DAYS/13 NIGHTS An in-depth 15 days tour highlighting both the old and new of Morocco. Day 1 - To casablanca from New York Depart this evening on your transatlantic flight on Royal Air Maroc's direct service to Casablanca. Day 2 - Casablanca to Rabat Upon arrival you will be met and assisted by a representative of our local Oussaden Tour office. A 60- mile drive brings you to Rabat, the present capital of Morocco and the official residence of King Hassan II. Check in to your hotel. Afternoon tourswill include the walking to Kasbah of the Oudayas, the Great Masque, the Hassan Tower and the magnificient Mohammed V Mausoleum. You will drive past the ramparts and the walls of Mechouar that encompass the royal palace. Dinner and overnight in Rabat.(D) Day 3 - Rabat, Moulay Idriss, Volubilis, Meknes, Fez You will begin your exploration of the Imperial Cities this morning with a stop at the Holy City of Moulay Idriss where the founder of Islam is buried. Continue on to the archaeological site of the Roman ruins at Volubilis. From here you will travel to Meknes where, after lunch, you will drive throughout the wall and numerous gates of Bab el Mnsour, the Shrine Mosque, tne tomb of Moulay Ismail, Dar Jami Palace and the Royal Stables. End your day in Fez, the first Imperial City which was built in 790 A.D. by Moulay Idriss II(B,D) Day 4 - Fez A full day to explore Morocco's most fascinating city and the world's last surviving Medieval city Start today by traveling downtown to visit King Palace. After walking through the Jewish and Arab sections, you will see South King Palace. Continue along the river for a panoramic view of the Old Town Medina. You enter the city through one of the main gates for a walking tour highlighting the Karaounine University - the oldest in the world , The Mederssa Attarine, Buanania Religious School, Najarine Fountain, ending with an optional lunch at Chez Momo. Later visit Moulay Idriss Mausoleum and a famous tannery where skins are cured and dyed in enormous vats. There will also be tine to shop for some of Fez's famous handicrafts.(B,D) Day 5 - Fez, Ifrane, Azrou, Midelt, Erfoud Depart this morning and travel through the Middle Atlas Region of Imouzer Kender, a Berber village, then to the delightful ski resort of Ifrane. Continue to Azrou, A Berber village known for its handicrafts and carpet weaving. Stop for lunch in Midlet, continue traveling along the palm tree lined banks of the Ziz River to Erfoud.This road is filled with many ancient walled cities. Arrive in Erfoud for dinner.(B,D) Day 6 - Erfoud, Rissani, Erfoud This morning you will be traveling via a palm-lined road to the Holy City of Rissani. Here you will visit Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Sherife, Ksour Abdel HAmid and Abdel Malik Kasbah. Return to the hotel this afternoon at your leidure. Evening Land Rover to the Sahara Merzouga Sand Dunes for Sunset. Optionally a night of adventure under moonlit tents is available or return to your hotel in Erfoud. Day 7 - Erfoud, El KAlaa, Zgora Passing the kasbahs along the palm-lined Tinejdad Road brings you to the wanderful oasis of Tinerhir. From here travel to the Todra Gorges whose cliffs stand over 300 meters vertically around you. From here you wil be driven through the Dades Valley, the Valley of a llThousand Kasbahs. En route travel to El Kalaa where every May the Festival of Rosese is held. It is here in this city of roses that the famous Moroccan perfumes are made. Continue through the Draa Valley until you reach Zagora.(B,D) Day 8 - Zagora, Ouarzazate An exciting day exploring the gateway of the Moroccan desert. As you travel through the lowlands and then through the mountain passes. Stop first in Tamegroute, home of the famous Koran Library, filled with many rare books and documents dating back to the 13th century and written on gazelle hide. Return in the evening to Ouarzazate.(B,D) Day 9 - Ouarzazate, Ait Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate A full day of touring to experience the intriguing kasbahs. You will visit the kasbahs of Tifeltout and then Taourirt, one of Morocco's most impressive kasbah's built by Glaoui. Continue on to one of Morocco's most spectacular fortressed cities-Ait Ben Haddou- ancient Kasbah, before returning to Ouarzazate.(B,D) Day 10 - Ouarzazate, Taliouine, Taroudent. Travel this morning via Tadert and the Tizi Tichka Pass in the heart of the Atlas Mountains. Enjoy this scenic frive of constrasting views, a vast & omnous valley containing kasbahs and an oasis below. En route you will stop for a visit to an authentic Berber village. A picturesque day awaits you as you travel through the mountains.(B,D)
