Conservation Foundation Trails Project

The Trails Project is a group of volunteers that was formed in 1989 and has worked towards their mission which is "to advocate the development of a region-wide multipurpose trails network, and to promote the use and appreciation of trails as a resource for conservation, recreation, health & maintenance and alternative transportation routes." Over the past 10 years the Trails Project has accomplished a great deal including the following:
  • Proposed many trail safety improvements which were implemented by local agencies.
  • Sponsored Trails Day events in June of 1993, 1996, 1997 and 1998.
  • Sponsored a clean up of the Great Western Trail in fall of 1996.
  • Developed fact sheets and other informational materials to help inform local officials about various trail issues.
  • Participated in the development of the Regional Bikeways Plan for DuPage County by the DuPage County Regional Planning Commission in 1995.
  • Sponsored various trails conferences in Fall of 1992, Winter of 1995 and Fall of 1995.
  • Conducted research at the DuPage County Fair in summer of 1994 to determine how the trails are currently being used.
  • Sponsored a Trails Mix social event in June of 1993 to bring various trail users together.

The Trails Project has prioritized three new goals for 1999. They are outlined below as well as the strategies determined to meet them. If you are interested in helping with these efforts please feel free to attend our monthly meetings. Please call me for more information or directions. We hope to see you there!
