Uinta Silver Cross

In the summer of 1997, while detecting a portion of the Lake Fork River on the south slope of Utah's Uinta Mountains, two prospector's uncovereed a partially melted cross. The area that they had been searching in was said to be a place where the Ute Indians had massacred some Jesuit Priests.  The discovery was jubiliant, and the prospectors could not wait to get the cross to professionals that could tell them more about their find.  It was discovered that the cross was 40% lead and 60% silver.  It is thought that after the Priests had been butchered their bodies had been taken to be burned along with all that they owned,  which couldn't have been much.  The fire most likely consumed the cross and melted portions of it.  This type of cross most likely hung around a Priests neck.  The search continues for more artifacts along that portion of the river.
